A toner showing a high transferability and suitable for use in cleanerless image forming system is formed of toner particles comprising at least a binder resin and magnetic iron oxide. The toner is characterized by a specific circularity distribution relative to its weight-average particle size and a controlled degree of surface-exposed magnetic iron oxide providing an extract solution with hydrochloric acid showing an absorbance of 1.0-2.5 at a wavelength of 340 nm. The toner is suitably produced by a production system including a rotary mechanical pulverizer and a one-pass surface treatment apparatus for continuously applying a mechanical impact force to pulverized toner particles therein.

A toner is comprised of a composition containing at least a polymer component and a charge control agent. The polymer component contains substantially no tetrahydrofuran (THF)-insoluble matter. The polymer component THF-soluble has a major peak and a minor peak in the specific molecular weight regions in gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The low molecular weight component and high molecular weight component of the polymer component, each of which shows the specific molecular weight region in GPC, have the specific acid values, respectively. The difference between the acid values is in the specific range.

A heat fixable toner comprises a binder resin and a release agent. The binder resin comprises a polyester resin, and the release agent comprises a graft-modified polyolefin. A recording medium containing a toner image of said heat fixable toner is heat-fixed by contacting the recording medium with a heater element through a film interposed therebetween. After the heat-fixing step, the film is peeled from the fixed toner image while the film surface temperature is higher than the endothermic peak temperature of the toner.

The magnetic toner has a weight-average particle size of at most 13.5 .mu.m, and the magnetic toner has a particle size distribution such that magnetic toner particles having a particle size of at least 12.7 .mu.m are contained in an amount of at most 50 wt. %. The magnetic iron oxide particles have a silicon content of 0.4-2.0 wt. % based on iron, and the magnetic iron oxide particles have an Fe/Si atomic ratio of 1.2-4.0 at the utmost surfaces thereof. Because of the use of such magnetic iron oxide particles having a specifically controlled overall and surface Si contents, the magnetic toner can show stable performances even after standing in a high humidity environment.

A color toner for developing electrostatic images is formed of color toner particles each including a binder resin, a polyalkylene, and a colorant. The color toner particles are formed by suspension polymerization. The polyalkylene is characterized by having a crystallinity of 10-50% and a melting enthalpy (as measured by a differential scanning calorimeter) of at most 35 cal/g. The color toner is characterized by an improved fixability without causing offset especially at a relatively low temperature and suitable for providing a transparency film for an overhead projection.
