The email is transmitted to the administrator terminal at a predetermined timing. Then, the administrator terminal accesses the information based on the link information appended to the email. As such, when a problem occurs in the printer, operations for resolving the problem can be quickly undertaken by the administrator.

摘要： In order to prevent unnecessary APIPA process from being executed in a LAN environment which does not adopt APIPA, an ICMP echo request for a predetermined IP address is broadcast. Whether there are more than N apparatuses using APIPA is checked based on the replies, and if there are, IP address setting by APIPA is executed. In a LAN environment which adopts APIPA, whether the IP address to be assigned to an apparatus is already being used by another apparatus is checked. If the date and time when the other apparatus was assigned the IP address is earlier than the date and time when the apparatus was assigned the IP address, APIPA is executed to decide the IP address of the apparatus.

摘要： A data transmission/reception system provides the recipient of image data with flexible options for handling the image data. The system transmits notification mail to a cellular phone owned by the recipient when transmitting facsimile data from a transmitting facsimile machine to a receiving facsimile machine. The recipient transmits a command from the cellular phone indicating how the facsimile data received by the receiving facsimile machine should be handled. In response to the command received from the cellular phone, the receiving facsimile machine either forms an image based on the facsimile data on paper or forwards the facsimile data to another facsimile machine near the recipient. Accordingly, the recipient can transmit a forwarding command instructing the receiving facsimile machine to transmit the facsimile data to a facsimile machine nearby when the recipient is in a remote location, thereby enabling the recipient to view an image based on the facsimile data at any time.

摘要： In a printing system, before transmitting print data to a printer, a personal computer transmits a virtual printing start command to the printer. When the data received by the printer is a virtual printing start command, the printer performs a virtual printing operation until the printer receives a virtual printing end command from the personal computer. At the virtual printing operation, procedures are similar to those of an actual printing operation. However, at the virtual printing operation, sheets are not conveyed nor is a developing agent, such as ink and toner, adhered to the sheets by a printing unit. For example, the received print data is developed into a memory as an image data. When an error occurs during the virtual printing operation, the printer provides error information to the personal computer. Then, the personal computer displays the error information via a dialog box to a user.
