摘要: An dispersive pad to accommodate a common metatarsalgia has a unitary pad of a flexible material such as neoprene. The pad is shaped to fit in a toe box of a shoe. The pad has a thin arch part, a thin toe part, and a thinner valley between the arch part and the toe part. The valley is defined by thicker pontoons on either side of the thinner valley.

摘要: An article of footwear and insert for an article of footwear are provided with means for stimulating cutaneous pressure sensation from the perimeter of the plantar surface (sole) of the foot. Increasing cutaneous sensation from the perimeter of the plantar foot surface provides the central nervous system of the wearer of the footwear with an increased ability to detect and react to shifts of the body's center of gravity toward the edges of the feet which, if left uncorrected, could result in a loss of balance or a fall. An insole is disclosed which is provided with an elongate member or a series of protrusions which form a narrow ridge in close proximity to the perimeter of the insole, the ridge being adapted to protrude upwardly against the plantar foot surface along at least a portion of the perimeter thereof.

摘要: New application of biomechanical principles of elastic stretch and braking force are combined in an athletic shoe. The new design implements the concepts by placing the heel of the shoe inner sole significantly lower than the ball of the foot and toes. Tests show that an inner sole reverse slope of about 31/2.degree. provides an optimum significant improvement in jumping in particular. The reverse slope is substantially flat from the center of pressure beneath the heel to the five centers of pressure beneath the ball of the foot. The flat slope provides more assurance that the weight of the user will be applied to the shoe through the centers of pressure in preference to locations under the arch. The invention is applicable to "explosive" movement sports such as basketball, track and field, volleyball, tennis and soccer. Preferably the shoes are constructed with formed or curved heels to retain the feet properly positioned in the shoes by preventing the feet from sliding too far back within the shoes. The increased athletic performance appears to arise from a two fold effect. First, the reverse slope because of the toe elevation additionally stretches the achilles tendon resulting in the ability to generate greater jumping force as the calf muscle contracts. Second, the reverse slope because of the continuous flat nature of the slope, provides a greater stopping or braking force, thus improving the ability to convert forward momentum into vertical or lateral motion. In a second embodiment the shoe inner sole not only slopes upward from the heel longitudinally but also has the steepest slopes underlying the user's heel and ball of the foot. The result is a greater braking force on the user's foot which in turn improves the ability to convert forward momentum into vertical and lateral motion.

摘要: A walking shoe is provided between its outer and inner soles, and substantially hidden by the ramp at the instep and toe, with a reverse wedge, i.e., one which increases in thickness in the forward direction. The reverse wedge terminates forwards of the shoe heel. The reverse wedge and the sole of which it forms a part remain flexible. The objective is the provision of a shoe which enhances the amount of exercise provided to the wearer's foot and leg muscles while walking.

摘要: Metatarsal pad structured with relation to the foot for which it is intended so that it bridges across the width of the five metatarsal bones; a configuration at the front is such that each metatarsal is supported just posteriorly of the head thereof and with a height to raise the heads of the metatarsals from weight bearing and transfer of the weight over a larger area. The front of the pad is characterized by a radius of curvature of about 3/16 of an inch in the vertical plane and the frontal outline in the horizontal plane is preferably convex in the central portion while being slightly concave on either side thereof; this conforms to the shape of volar surface of the metatarsal as it develops the head of each metatarsal. The alternate concave and convex frontal outlines follow a line just posterior to the head of the first metatarsal and progressing laterally just behind the head of each subsequent metatarsal. The pads are asymmetric and are provided for the left and the right foot. A minimum of about five sizes are provided for adult foot sizes. The pads may be formed of room temperature curing urethane elastomer or injection molded latex or other suitable material, preferably with flexibility, resilience and relatively low compressibility. It is contemplated that the pads will be fitted by properly trained persons for maximum benefit in reducing trauma to the heads of the metatarsal that cause callosities and other problems.

摘要: An arch support for the foot includes a plantar support member having a cavity to removably receive a metatarsal support element; metatarsal support elements of different height can be used depending on the activity engaged in by the wearer; heel wedges of different height may similarly be used; the metatarsal support element has, in particular, an open lattice-like structure which reduces material and weight of the support, improves flexibility and allows better air circulation.

摘要: An inner sole-like base plate is provided of stiffly flexible material provided with a grid of a multiplicity of mounting sites, e.g. small holes. A plurality of different podiatric appliances are provided, each in a range of graduated sizes or intensities and/or in an adjustable manner. Each of the appliances is provided with securement devices, such as two or more wire tabs, which extend from the appliance and are adapted for connection to the base plate at such of the mounting sites as are prescribed or otherwise determined to best suit the resulting construction to the individual wearer. In some instances the resulting construction is meant to be worn as an insert for conventional footwear or orthopedic footwear, and in other instances sandal-fashion either by itself or inside or outside a wearer's socks, possibly then enclosed in a shoe or other covering. Some of the appliances are adapted to be worn on the foot without a base plate.

摘要: The present invention consists of the construction and specific application of a series of differentially-sized geometrically-shaped and specifically configured, generally wedge-shaped, prosthetic devices being structures composed of urethane foam that are to be utilized in the compensatory treatment of specific clinical structural biomechanical abnormalities of the human foot. These prosthetic foot devices are disposed in relation to anatomical specific regions in the footwear of the subject. Both the rear foot and the fore foot areas are the specific structural corrective regions with either or both a varus or valgus correction being the indicated reason for application of the device.
