Abstract: An ornamental valence treatment for windows enables swags or festoons to be arranged in a variety of different arrangements to suit different window dimensions. The treatment uses standard components and enables them to be easily removed for washing or cleaning. At least two decorative swags are provided for draping from a support member, each swag has at least one attachment edge with a hook tape along one side of the edge and a loop-tape along the other side of the edge and a loop-tape along the other side of the edge, such that the two swags can be joined together by the hook-tape of one swag engaging with the loop-tape of the other swag.

Abstract: An improved thermal drapery construction to provide two thermally resistant air spaces behind a decorative drapery without increasing the bulk or stack when the drapery is pulled off the glass. The construction consists of hanging a three part thermal drapery consisting of a backing material with fibrous spacer and a material metallized on two sides from a wide tape that suspends the three part combination under a carrier on a retaining rod. The combination material is slightly thinner than the carrier so an air space is created between the thermal drapery and a decorative drapery that is attached to the opposite side of the same carrier. The air space between the two draperies is also increased by a recalculation of the spacing of the carrier fastening means on the headings of the two draperies.A critical feature of the thermal drapery is the means of assembly that makes it fold in regular reverse folds so that it enhances the appearance of the folds of the outer drapery. The means of assembly also allows the material to be uniformly opaque.Additional improvements have been made to the heat-cap and support brackets to facilitate installation of the heat cap and retainer rod or rods. The thermal drapery has a design feature that allows a sheer curtain to be hung behind the drapery with no danger of the outer drapery crushing the inner when the outer drapery is opened and closed.

Abstract: An improved temporary window shade (10) that is designed to cover a window opening during the period when a person is awaiting the arrival and installation of a permanent window covering. The shade (10) consists of a non-woven, translucent material (12), having imprinted on its surface a grid (14) of vertical and horizontal lines that allows the material to be accurately and easily cut to size. The material (12) may be attached to either a window (50), a window sash (52) or to a wall (56) that surrounds a window frame (54). The attachment is made by first attaching a material attachment means, such as a two-sided adhesive tape (16), to the attachment structure. The material's upper edge (12c) is then pressed against the two-sided tape to hold the material in place. The shade (10) may bge partially raised by attaching at its lower corners a bendable strip (20). The materials's (12) lower edge (12d) is then raised, folded over itself and the outward ends of the bendable strip are bend and pressed against the inward material to thus hold up the folded section.

Abstract: A safety device including first and second members is attached to the pull cords for window coverings to prevent children from strangling when the children play with the pull cords. Detents on first surfaces of the first and second members couple the first and second members in detachable relationship at the first surfaces upon the exertion of forces against the members in directions transverse to such first surfaces. The first member is retained by one of the cords at a position laterally displaced in a first direction from the first surfaces and the second member is retained by the other cord at a position laterally displaced from the first surfaces in a second direction opposite to the first direction. Such retentions are provided at second surfaces transverse to, and displaced from, the first surfaces. The second surfaces are shaped relative to each other to provide for the detachment of the first and second members at the first surfaces upon the exertion of forces in the direction of the first surfaces. Specifically, the second surfaces may slope downwardly to the first surfaces from the positions of retention by the cords. The members may be externally shaped to facilitate gripping in the palm of a hand with the members in attached relationship. The members may be removably attached to the frame of window coverings and may be formed to retain the cords in a looped configuration displaced from children's reach.

Abstract: A temporary window shade is provided for use in buildings which have not yet had permanent draperies or blinds installed. The shade is made from a sheet of disposable material, the top, bottom and side edges of which have been folded to form hems. Stiffener strips are inserted in the top and bottom hems to provide rigidity. The top hem is attachable to the wall above a window. The bottom stiffener strip includes hook means which are receivable in slots formed along the side edges of the shade to hold the bottom edge of the shade in a raised configuration. Each hook means is preferably a double hook, having an upturned portion providing through one face of the shade and a downturned portion projecting through the opposite face of the shade to allow the shade to be foldced twice.
