Abstract: In one aspect, a system for monitoring soil composition within a field using an agricultural machine may include a ground-engaging tool configured to rotate relative to soil within a field as the agricultural machine is moved across the field. The ground-engaging tool may, in turn, include a tooth defining a cavity therein, with the cavity including an opening. Furthermore, the system may include a sensor positioned within the cavity, with the sensor configured emit an output signal through the opening for reflection off of the soil within the field. The sensor may also be configured to detect the reflected output signal as a return signal, with a parameter of the return signal being indicative of a soil composition of the soil within the field.

Abstract: A row unit for a seeding machine includes a ground view sensor coupled to the frame. The ground view sensor is operable to sense the furrow and generate depth signals corresponding to actual sensed depth of the furrow. The row unit also includes a controller configured to receive the signals, and a downforce adjustment mechanism coupled to the frame and to the controller. The controller is configured to activate the downforce adjustment mechanism to adjust a downforce on the frame based on the signals received by the controller.

Abstract: A tool assembly is provided for a planter row unit and resides at the forward end of the row unit beneath the tool bar. A linear actuator controls the position of the tool. The tool may also include a depth control mechanism. Different tools can be interchanged on the bracket assembly.

Abstract: An agricultural planting system for controlling the depth of an opener device in an agricultural planter includes an agricultural planter, an opener device, a gauge wheel, a GPS device, and a controller. The opener device is mounted on the agricultural planter for engaging the ground of a field. The gauge wheel is mounted on the agricultural planter for rotating on the ground of the field. The GPS device is coupled to the agricultural planter. The GPS device is configured to determine a location of the agricultural planter in the field. The controller is in electrical communication with the agricultural planter and the GPS device. The controller has predetermined settings associated with a map of the field. The controller is configured to select a relative elevation of the opener device and the gauge wheel based at least in part on the location determined by the GPS device.

Abstract: A seed supply system includes a singulating meter with a seed reservoir pressurized to a meter pressure that is in a desired pressure range. A seed supply air stream carries seeds dispensed from a nurse tank to an air release assembly located above the singulating meter. As seeds are metered from the seed reservoir at a rate less than the rate seeds are dispensed from the nurse tank seeds accumulate in the air release assembly. The pressure of the seed supply air stream at the top of the seed column fluctuates and a barrier is operative to resist air flow between the air release assembly and the seed reservoir sufficiently to maintain the meter pressure in the desired meter pressure range. The barrier can be provided for example by an airlock or a column of seed in a drop tube between the air release assembly and the seed reservoir.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a seeding implement control system includes a controller including a memory and a processor. The controller is configured to receive a first signal indicative of a target extension length of an actuator. The actuator is configured to control a ground engaging tool of a row unit. The actuator is also configured to position a lower surface of a blade of the ground engaging tool a target distance above a soil surface while the actuator is extended to the target extension length. The controller is further configured to store the target extension length in a memory device of the controller. The controller is configured to instruct the actuator to transition to the target extension length in response to receiving a second signal indicative of transitioning the ground engaging tool to a disengaged position.

Abstract: Disclosed are a method and/or a system of forming a closing wheel of a planter using a set of interlocking arches to ensure optimum soil-to-seed contact for consistent germination and emergence of a crop. A closing wheel assembly for a planter includes a spiked wheel frame and shoulder frame configured to securely mount onto a closing wheel hub. The spiked wheel frame includes a series of outwardly projected radial teeth configured to penetrate soil to form a seed trench. The spiked wheel frame is formed using a set of arch-shaped interlocking segments having a puzzle element and puzzle slot at its ends. Each puzzle element is configured to fit into the puzzle slot of the adjacent arch-shaped segment to form a circular loop. The shoulder frame evenly closes the seed trench formed by the spiked wheel frame as the closing wheel assembly rotates in the soil optimally covering the seed.

Abstract: A load sensing bracket for a disk opener assembly of an agricultural implement. The load sensing bracket includes a body having a cantilevered arm, the body is configured to engage with and secure to a portion of a depth setting arm of a disc opening assembly. The cantilevered arm has an upper end with an extending projection that is receivable in any one of plurality of notches of a fan shaped member thereby setting a position of the depth setting arm relative to the fan shaped member which sets a position of the gauge wheel relative to the disk. A sensor is disposed on the cantilevered arm generating a signal relating to strain in the cantilevered arm which corresponds to a down pressure on the gauge wheel.
