Abstract: A wheeled support tower for a travelling irrigation machine is provided. A tower frame includes at least two legs and a base beam interconnecting lower ends thereof and at least two wheels located towards two extremities of the base beam. The base beam that houses at least two drive shafts therein, and preferably the legs, are of a tubular construction. One or more center drives for rotating the drive shafts are also located within a housing forming part the base beam. The two legs and base beam may be arranged to form a generally triangular support tower. The drive shafts may be coupled to wheel boxes each of which houses a driving gear arrangement for an associated wheel hub. The wheel boxes are in a lower vertical position than the lower ends of the legs and fall at least partially within the width of the legs in plan view in the normal operative position thereof.

Abstract: A control system for monitoring a motor and wheel drive gearbox of an irrigation system drive train. The control system includes a motor sensor for sensing an operating state of the motor and a gearbox sensor for sensing an operating state of the wheel drive gearbox. If the motor operating state exceeds a motor operating state threshold or changes too quickly, or if the wheel drive gearbox operating state exceeds a wheel drive gearbox operating state threshold or changes too quickly, the control system operates the drive train at a reduced capacity or in a modified mode such that the operating state is not exceeded or does not change too quickly.

Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method which includes a crop/soil analysis module which analyzes data collected and feeds the machine learning module, from one or more sources including imaging data from UAVs, satellites, span mounted crop sensors, in situ field and weather sensors. According to a further preferred embodiment, aerial data is combined and overlaid with span mounted sensor data in near real-time to generate irrigation management recommendations. According to a further preferred embodiment, the span mounted sensors may preferably provide field specific data of current field conditions and may preferably use the system's analytics to calculate crop water use and crop water stress index. According to a further preferred embodiment, vegetation indexes may preferably be calculated as checks against the values calculated from the aerial data and to provide information if cloud cover or other atmospheric interference is present. According to a further preferred embodiment, the crop/soil analysis module may further interface with the drive control and applicant pressure controls to autonomously create and execute an irrigation plan which includes custom drive instructions and applicant dispersal rates for a given field.

Abstract: A spray boom for spraying a fluid on a target includes a boom frame and a spray section coupled to the boom frame. The spray section includes a spray pipe configured to be fluidly coupled to a fluid source and a nozzle coupled to the spray pipe and configured to be fluidly coupled to the fluid source. An actuator is coupled at one end to the boom frame and at an opposite end to the spray section. The actuator is controllably extending and retracting to move the spray pipe and nozzle between a raised position and a lowered position. A trip assembly is coupled between the boom frame and actuator for biasing the spray section to a biased position in which the actuator and nozzle are substantially perpendicular to the underlying surface.

Abstract: A spray boom includes a body having a length defined a first end and a second end thereof. The body is formed by a plurality of layers of composite material adapted to be molded together to form an inner surface and an outer surface. A hollow cavity is defined in the body internally of the inner surface, and a channel is formed in the body between the inner surface and the outer surface. The channel extends along the length and is defined between the first end and the second end.

Abstract: An irrigation system includes a central pivot and a series of mobile towers connected to the central pivot and to one another by support structure. Each mobile tower has wheels and a motor for driving at least one of the wheels. A control system operates the motors to maintain alignment of the mobile towers and the central pivot while preventing power usage of the system from exceeding a maximum power threshold. The control system determines in which sequence to operate the motors to maintain alignment of the mobile towers while operating no more than a selected number of the motors simultaneously.
