    摘要： A removable protective cover for a flower receptacle at a grave marker includes a lower portion and an upper portion. The lower portion includes a generally tubular base member having open ends and a hole extending longitudinally therethrough. The base member also has a flange extending outwardly from its upper end. The lower open end of the base member is placed over the flower receptacle and lowered downwardly over the receptacle. The lower portion also includes a plate having an aperture in the center of the plate that is attached to the base member such that the aperture corresponds to the hole in the base member. The plate also has a plurality of slots provided around its periphery and an upturned lip extending upwardly from the periphery of the plate. The upper portion of the device includes a protective cover that can be removably connected to the plate to enclose and protect the flowers or other objects placed in the receptacle. The cover is preferably made of clear plastic and is parabolic or hemispherical in shape. A plurality of tabs extend from the bottom edge of the cover in positions corresponding to the positions of the slots in the plate. To removably connect the cover to the plate, the cover is lowered onto the plate such that the tabs extend through the respective slots in the plate. The lip on the outer edge of the plate helps to keep the cover in place by preventing lateral movement of the cover.

    摘要： A method and apparatus for stemming a flower in which the flower stem is cut substantially simultaneously with attaching a flower pick to the flower stem, thereby eliminating the separate steps of cutting the flower stem and subsequently attaching a stem pick by combining these two operations. In another aspect of the invention, the flower stem is cut in an environment which displaces air from the region of the severed plant stem by submerging the portion of the plant stem in the region of severance under water or by subjecting it to a flow of water or a spray of water or other material which would prevent formation of an air gap in the vascular tissue of the plant and/or skinning over of the tubules. The flower stem may be cut under water and a pick applied under water or cut of the water or out of the water. The water or other material used for displacing air in the region of severance may contain a floral preservative or nutrient or bacteria stat or other material to help prolong the shelf life of the flower. An electromechanical arrangement may replace former manually operated functions.

The support defines a horizontal surface upon which the bottom wall of the pot is positioned. Pin means extend upwardly from this horizontal surface, and at least one opening is defined by the bottom wall of the pot for receiving the pin means. This arrangement secures the pot on the support surface against the influence of wind, jostling, or other dislodging forces.
