    摘要: A tire building machine including an expandable drum having a plurality of radially movable drum segments which are simultaneously moved drum segments which are simultaneously moved a predetermined amount by controlled axial movement of an annular rack having external teeth in meshing engagement with a plurality of pinions for driving radial racks associated with each of the drum segments. An adjustable stop means may also be provided on the annular rack for limiting axial movement of the rack in the direction of expansion of the radially movable segments, and the ply turn-up and side wall applying mechanism amy comprise an inflatable bladder having an axial inner marginal porion clamped to the radially movable drum segments for radial movement therewith into engagement with the tire bead disposed thereabout for uniform and concentric clamping of the tire bead while the remaining porion of the bladder is supported by a rigid support adjacent the end of the drum.

THE SURFACE SEGMENTS OF THE RESPECTIVE ARRAYS ARE SITUATED SO AS TO FORM AXIALLY ALIGNED PAIRS OF SEGMENTS WITH THE ADJACENT AXIAL ENDS DEFINING A GAP WHICH CHANGES WITH A CHANGE IN

    DRUM SET. EACH OF THESE GAPS IS SPANNED OR RIDGED BY A SPACER SEGMENT. THE DRUM IS ADJUSTED TO A PREDERTERMINED LENGTH AND THESPACER SEGMENTS ARE SNAPPED ONTO THE SURFACE BETWEEN THE SURFACE SEGMENTS OF THE AXIALLY ALIGNED PAIRS. TO REMOVE THE SPACER SEGMENTS FOR REPLACEMENT, THE DRUM IS INCREASED IN LENGTH AND THE SPACER SEGMENTS SIMPLY FALL FROM THE DRUM.

    摘要: A tire-building machine is a structural combination of two relatively independent sections. Each section comprises a support housing, a rotatable shaft cantilevered from the housing and a cylindrical drum mounted at the free end of the shaft for rotation therewith. With the axes of the shafts aligned, the drums thereon are connectable at their outer axial ends to form a divisible tire-building drum of predetermined axial length or ''''set.'''' An annular ply turnup bladder is mounted for rotation with each shaft adjacent the inner axial end of each drum. Also, an annular bead ring carrier is mounted on each housing to reciprocate coaxially of each shaft. The set of the divisible drum can be adjusted by replacing one or both of the constituent drums with other drums of different lengths.

    摘要: A platform moving mechanism for effecting movement of platform means, such as the deck segments of a tire-building machine having an annular expandable drum defined by a plurality of circumferentially arranged deck segments each having a plurality of supporting members extending circumferentially of the drum in spaced apart side-by-side relation, and which are in end to end interleaved relation between adjacent deck segments, and in which the deck segments are movable radially to effect relative circumferential movement of the supporting members to define substantially cylindrical supporting surfaces of different radii, in which the platform moving mechanism is formed by opposed pusher arms lying in planes extending axially of the drum pivoted at their inner ends to the deck segments and pivoted at their outer ends to pusher rings movable axially toward and away from each other, and in which the inner ends of the pusher arms are provided with meshing gear teeth so that as the pusher rings are moved axially toward and away from each other, the deck segments are moved conjointly radially inwardly and outwardly to provide for the desired radial positioning of the deck segments and consequently the circumferential positioning of the supporting members so that the outer surfaces of the latter define substantially concentric supporting surfaces at any position of the pusher rings with respect to each other.
