摘要： The method enables images recorded with different definitions to be printed by the same printer, and the information to be printed with maximum print definitions. For this purpose, the print definitions (dots per mm) is a common multiple of the possible recording definitions. The information to be printed is extracted from a signal generator with a frequency corresponding to the recording definition, and is repeated in accordance with the multiple. For example with a print definition of 24 dots/mm defined by a row and column grid L1, L2, etc., C1, C2, etc., a character definition of 8 dots/mm is obtained by printing each dot three times in each row and repeating each row a further two times. The printer, which is therefor suitable for various purposes, for example as a word processor printer and as a facsimile printer, repeatedly prints each dot, along the horizontal and/or along the vertical, for a number of times corresponding to the multiple, to provide a line continuity and an improved image resolution. The printer used may be of electrophotographic type, with the printing element provided by a laser generator.

摘要： For any selected total number of scanning heads and a required minimum spacing between the scanning heads, the scanning heads are arranged in one or more arrays to read or write substantially parallel lines on a medium or surface at closer distances than the center to center distance of adjacent scanning heads in the indexing direction. The scanning heads in any array do not have to be spaced uniform distances from each other. When the scanning heads are arranged in more than one array, each of the arrays is spaced an arbitrary distance from the adjacent array in the pass direction. To arrange the scanning heads for interlace scanning, they are initially arranged in a single line in the indexing direction with their centers spaced from each other the same distance as the centers of the parallel lines, which are being read or written. Then, some of the scanning heads are shifted in at least one of the pass and indexing directions with any shifting in the indexing direction being a pitch distance or a multiple thereof.

A single-tipped marking instrument is moved with a prescribed motion parallel to the surface as the device is moved across the surface to create a relatively dense array of line patterns. Simultaneously, received control signals cause the tip to move in and out of contact with the surface for, in effect, masking the array to produce characters represented by those signals.

摘要： Disclosed is an ink jet printer having the capability of printing both vertically and horizontally. This is accomplished by mechanical orientation of the electric field associated with the deflection plates. In a first embodiment, the plates are mounted in such a manner as to permit rotation manually, for example, by a handle which interconnects the two plates and permit rotation thereof about the axis of the ink drop stream. In an alternate embodiment, the deflection plates are comprised of two pairs, a horizontal pair and a vertical pair which are shiftable into and out of operating position to effect the desired ink drop deflection.

摘要： A spirally interlacing jet drop recorder prints gray tones on a recording sheet mounted upon a rotating drum. The number of jets and the jet spacing is selected in such a manner as to facilitate time sharing of a matrix pattern memory by control circuits controlling operation of each of the jets. Matrices representing the gray levels to be produced are progressively printed from column to column by different ones of the array of jets.
