    摘要: A bicycle brake assembly having an inverted substantially U-shaped brake arm assembly (21, 21a) and a cable coupling (31, 31a) centrally positioned between outwardly and downwardly extending brake arms (32, 33). Each brake arm (32, 33) includes a resiliently flexible upper arm portion (36, 36a) connected to a downwardly and inwardly extending relatively inflexible lower arm portion (37, 37a), preferably by integrally forming the arm portions as a single member. The upper and lower arm portions are formed and coupled together, and the frame mounts (39) positioned, so that upward displacement of the cable coupling (31, 31a) causes resilient flexing of the upper arms (36, 36a), which in turn pulls the lower arms (37, 37a) toward each other to effect braking, all without straightening out of the upper and lower arms in a manner losing braking leverage. The resilient flexibility of the arm assemblies (32, 33) causes the braking arms to be returned outwardly to a non-braking position when the brake actuating force is released.

Along with lower manufacturing costs, there is easy interchangeability and a good reliability in servicing the brake. A single working cylinder is fastened above the fork of the bicycle and the main piston is connected with a control head, over which a traction cable is directed, which works on the usual brake shoes.

A pair of spring adjusting members are provided each fitted rotatably about the threaded portion of one of the bolts, and held by and between those end surfaces of the shank of the one bolt and of one of the cantilever mounting bases which face each other. A pair of cantilevers are provided each fitted rotatably about the shank of one of the bolts, and including a boss having a recess which is open towards one of the spring adjusting members. A pair of return springs are provided each housed in the recess of the boss of one of the cantilevers, and having one end engaging the boss of the one cantilever and another end engaging one of the spring adjusting members.

    摘要: A brake adjustment mechanism is provided for a bicycle wheel to allow cantilevered bicycle brakes to be adjusted quickly and easily and without the application of the brakes to the bicycle wheel. The brake adjustment mechanism employs a cable yoke which has a body adapted for connection to the flexible brake cable of a conventional cantilevered bicycle brake. The yoke has a pair of projecting supports that extend outwardly from opposite sides of a yoke body and toward opposite sides of the bicycle wheel. A separate socket is carried by each of the projecting supports. The sockets are movable in rotation relative to the yoke and each socket has a tapped opening facing a separate one of the bicycle brake lever arms. A pair of elongated rigid rods are each secured at one end to separate ones of the bicycle brake lever arms. Both of the elongated rods have externally threaded ends which are threadably engaged in separate ones of the tapped openings of the sockets. Rotation of the sockets relative to the threaded rods varies the overall effective length of the rigid structures formed by the sockets and the rods, thereby varying the initial dispositions of the brake lever arms and the initial positions of the brake pads to be adjusted in the absence of a braking force.
