    摘要: A self-tapping screw having a boring part and a threaded shaft for fixing a panel-type object to a preferably metallic substructure is provided. The screw is configured in such a way that it produces a through hole in the panel type object, said hole accommodating the shaft with a degree of play and so that it produces a bore in the substructure into which the thread on the shaft cuts a counter-thread. The boring part includes a boring tip that is located eccentrically in relation to the longitudinal axis of the screw. The tip centers the screw during the positioning operation in such a way that the boring part executes a circular displacement about the boring tip, which expands the through hole to the desired size, whereas the bore in the substructure is produced with the diameter of the boring part. The screw replaces self-tapping screws provided with boring flights and is preferably for use with a substructure consisting of thin sheet metal through which the boring flights of conventional screws can inadvertently penetrate.

    摘要: A fastener including a chisel point that pre-bores a hole in a work piece to prevent damage to the work piece as the fastener advances. The fastener can include a head, a shaft and a chisel brake point formed at an end of the shaft. The chisel brake point can include first and second opposing inclined surfaces disposed at an angle of about 80° to about 150° relative to one another. A thread can begin adjacent the chisel brake point and form an extension of an inclined surface and/or a chisel edge. The chisel brake point can scrape material from a work piece while pre-boring a hole. The material can be transferred to the thread, and subsequently fed up the thread, out of the pre-bored hole. The chisel brake point can also selectively retard advancement of the fastener into the work piece. Methods of installing the fastener also are provided.

    摘要: A self-tapping screw includes a threaded shank, a drill bit and a head. The drill bit is provided with two blades each provided with at least one cutting slot. Thus, the cutting slot of each of the two blades performs a cutting action during the tapping process to aid the tapping action of the two blades so as to increase the self-tapping velocity of the blades and to shorten the working time of the drill bit. In addition, the cutting slot of each of the two blades can proceed the cutting and tapping action to prevent the drill bit from being inoperative when the two blades are broken or worn out during a long-term utilization so as to enhance the lifetime of the self-tapping screw.

    摘要: A screw, in particular a self-tapping screw, has a screw thread which covers up to the front end of the screw formed as a drilling tip or cutting tip. In the front area, starting with a distance from the front end of the screw, there is an opposite thread showing the same pitch as the screw thread, however, its thread height is lower than the thread height of the screw thread. This second, opposite single-thread, double-thread or triple-thread/multi-thread forms a cutting edge with its thread edge which is used to cut fibers in order to reduce wedge effect during screwing in the screw. The screw is particularly suitable for wood or wood-like materials in the edge areas of structural elements.

    摘要: A self-tapping insert is installed in a pre-existing bore hole in a workpiece by rotating the insert, causing cutting threads on the exterior of the self-tapping insert to cut new threads. Engagement threads on the exterior of the self-tapping insert engage the new threads to retain the self-tapping insert within the workpiece. The self-tapping insert may comprise internal threads which are used to replaced damaged threads in the workpiece. The exterior threads of the self-tapping insert may be configured as left-handed threads, while the internal threads are right-handed threads. The top of the self-tapping insert may comprise an integral hexagonal shape, and a drive socket of corresponding size and shape may be employed to install the self-tapping insert, eliminating the need for installing the insert with a drive bolt, and permitting the left-handed rotation of the self-tapping inserts external threads.
