摘要： A custom insole is made up of a plurality of layers of a thermoformable material united together at their interfaces to conform in size and contour to the bottom surface of a foot, the layers comprising at least one strength layer and at least one filler layer united to the strength layer and contoured to conform to the bottom surface of the foot; and an arch flange curves upwardly for a distance to laterally support the bone structure in the arch area of the foot. In the method of making the insole, an unformed blank of thermoformable material is placed on a resilient support portion with the ball portion on a firm surface and, by placing the foot on top of the layers and applying downward pressure, it will cause the heel of the foot to form a depression in the heel portion and the ball portion of the foot to flatten out the layers resting on the firm surface. When the foot is removed, the blank is removed and the bottom surface beneath the heel is flattened to align it with the flat undersurface of the ball portion of the insole.

摘要： A method of custom manufacturing of shoes at a specified heel height is disclosed and includes forming a positive impression mold of the foot from a negative impression mold made with the foot oriented at the specified heel height. A sold impression form is provided having an upper surface shaped to correspond to the lower surface of the sole of a shoe with the specified heel height. The positive impression mold is located with its lower surface separated from the upper surface of the sole impression form by a distance approximating the desired sole thickness, after which a settable material adapted to harden to form a suitable sole is introduced into the space between the positive impression mold and the sole impression form. The sole impression form is then removed from the sole and the desired upper materials are attached to the sole to generally conform to the shape of the positive impression mold. A heel is then attached to the heel seat of the sole by injecting a settable material adapted to bond to the heel and the hole into a recessed area of the heel facing the lower surface of the sole.

摘要： A method and apparatus are provided for relatively convenient and efficient production of custom molded inserts for shoes. The apparatus utilizes a molding pillow arrangement, upon which a user stands during use. The molding pillow arrangement has a composite construction including a first resilient layer, a middle resilient layer and a bottom support layer. The bottom support layer preferably includes a generic arch curve therein. The upper resilient layer is formed from a relatively soft foam, and thus molds around a user's feet. The middle layer is resilient, but relatively hard by comparison to the upper layer. The middle layer provides for a relatively firm cushion underneath the user's foot, facilitating contouring of a molded insert to the bottom of the user's foot. Preferably, at least the upper cushion portion of the molding pillow arrangement comprises left and right cushions, independently moldable with respect to a user's left and right feet. A preferred insert construction for use in association with the method and apparatus is provided.

摘要： A custom-fit ski boot orthotic which efficiently transfers movement of the foot to the edges of the skis. The orthotic has a substantially rigid base plate attached to a rigid heel post. The base plate has an arch portion 20-40% shallower than the skier's actual arch which permits the limited movement necessary for foot comfort, without any significant loss in transfer efficiency. The base plate also has a heel cup portion to prevent heel roll. The orthotic of the present invention may be used as an insert or be built into the footbed of a ski boot.

摘要： A process and apparatus for forming customized footwear, such as shoes, boots or inner bladders for shoes or boots, and particularly an athletic shoe or boot, is disclosed in which an impression of the foot is used to make a positive mold, around which the shoe, boot or bladder is constructed. In the improved process a range-of-motion measuring apparatus is used to accurately determine the neutral position of the bone structure of the rearfoot complex of the foot. The foot is maintained in that position by means of the apparatus while the impression or casting of the foot is being made. The process provides a shoe, boot or inner liner or bladder therefor which will evenly support the foot in a neutral position. The range-of-motion measuring apparatus includes a beam generating laser that is directed toward a mirror mounted on the leg of the person being fitted. The mirror, in turn, is directed to reflect the laser beam onto a measuring device, such as a scale, which can be used to electronically or visually measure leg rotation during pronation and supination of the foot and, accordingly, to position the bone structure of the foot in its neutral position.
