A method of bonding previously cured elastomeric tread material to a previously cured elastomeric tire body which is particularly adapted for solid tires permanently mounted on wheels, the method comprising the steps of buffing the tread face of the previously cured tire body, encircling the buffed tread face with a bonding layer of uncured rubber, encircling the uncured rubber with a previously cured tread material, interposing the tire body between a pair of sealing discs each having a circular sealing lip, sealingly engaging the side walls of the tire body with the lips of the discs, encircling the tire body and tread material with a flexible fluid impervious envelope which extends outside the sealing discs, sealingly engaging said lips of said discs with said envelope by exerting radially directed forces on portions of the envelope and pressing the envelope portions into engagement with said discs, and then adhering the tread material to the tire body by curing the interposed rubber while retaining the tread material and tire body in assembled relation with the envelope.

    摘要： An improvement in a tire siping machine which has a spirally threaded drum mounted for rotation about a first axis, a knife projecting from the drum for cutting a tire brought into engagement with the drum, and an arrangement for supporting a tire in engagement with the drum. In accordance with the improvement of this invention, a shaft defining a second axis about which a tire rotates during drum engagement is supported for linear movement laterally relative to the drum while maintaining a constant predetermined skew relation between the axis of the shaft and the axis of the drum.

    摘要： Method of retreading pneumatic tires by the application to a previously used pneumatic tire carcass of a cured rubber tread band wherein proper adhesion of tread band to the previously used tire carcass is facilitated by use of an uncured rubber strip of predetermined cross-sectional configuration concave to fit the carcass. The tread is applied to a relaxed carcass and its length is preselected as less than the circumference so that on vulcanizing at the same temperature as the shrink temperature of the carcass (about 200*F), the tread will just surround the carcass. The composition of the uncured strip is selected to vulcanize at this same temperature.

    摘要： An apparatus and method for grooving tires which is particularly useful for renewing previously used over-the-road tires and which removes a portion of a layer of rubber applied to a tread face of a carcass so as to form on the tread face a predetermined grooved tread design. Relative motion between a heated knife and a tire carcass is controlled and coordinated in such a manner as to form a particular selected tread pattern, while one of a plurality of knives of varying configurations is selected to form particular portions of the grooved design. As described more fully hereinafter, a programmable memory preferably in the form of a digital, electronic central processor unit controls the operation of components of the apparatus and is programmed to follow particular functional sequences.
