    摘要: A coupling used during testing of a water line including an upstream pipe and a downstream pipe connected by the coupling. A removable barrier disk prevents water from flowing through the connected pipes until after testing, when the disk is then detached from the body member of the coupling. A piercing assembly interacts with a groove near the perimeter of the disk to initiate a tear that propagates along the groove as the disk is pulled away from the body member of the coupling. The piercing assembly is attached to the disk by a fulcrum element offset with respect to a center of the planar disk.

The body member has at one end a conical shaped wall with an apex that points inward. At ambient pressure, the diameter of the body member is less than the diameter of the pipe into which it is inserted. The diameter of the body member increases as the internal pressure increases, and the length of the conical shaped wall decreases.

The unitary removable barrier is composed of a single piece rubber body having at least one cylindrical section sized to receive upstream and downstream pipes of the water line. A unitary rubber planar disc molded with the cylindrical section is of a circular circumference and which completely blocks the water line but which is selectively removable from the cylindrical section thus removing the barrier to the passage of the waste through the line.

    摘要: A compression or jacking ring includes a first component constructed of two layers of a material that is comparatively non-elastic and has a Poisson's ratio preferably not greater than 0.3. A second component that is comparatively elastic and has a comparatively high Poisson's ratio is sandwiched between sections of the first component. The compression ring is sized and shaped to be positioned between facing surfaces of pipe sections in a string of pipe sections utilized for forming a pipe within a pipe receiving tunnel. In particular, the compression ring is constructed to transfer a load between adjacent pipes during insertion of the pipes into a tunnel so as to spread the load over a comparatively large surface area if the pipe sections become non-axially aligned relative to one another during insertion so as to reduce the likelihood of breakage.

    摘要: A modified polyurethane structionally incorporating silica into a polyurethane polymer. The silica is first fluidized with a polyol and then reacted with a linking component having an organo reactive group that is reactive with an isocyanate. Polyisocyanate and additional polyol are added to the reaction mixture such that the isocyanate reacts with the linking component and the polyol to form a polymer wherein the silica is an integral unit in the polymer. The resultant modified polyurethane has good dynamic properties and is surprisingly resilient.
