Abstract: A controller for use in a power converter comprising a control circuit coupled to generate a secondary drive signal to control a secondary switch. An enable circuit coupled to generate an enable signal to enable or disable the control circuit from generating the secondary drive signal. The enable circuit further comprising a winding signal detection circuit coupled to receive a discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) signal representative of a determination that the secondary switch has stopped conducting and a winding signal representative of a voltage of an output winding. The winding signal detection circuit is coupled to determine if the winding signal is less than a threshold at least an N number of times. The enable circuit is coupled to disable the control circuit from generation of the secondary drive signal to turn ON the secondary switch in response to the winding signal detection circuit.

Abstract: An electric drive system for a vehicle includes an inverter having at least one phase leg, wherein a first of the phase legs includes a first power switch; an internal voltage supply configured to generate an internal supply voltage regulated with respect to a voltage on a rail and a second voltage, wherein the internal voltage supply is configured to reduce a voltage difference between the internal supply voltage and the second voltage in response to a signal indicating a shut-down or a fault; and a gate drive channel configured to drive the first power switch into conductance by applying the voltage difference between the internal supply voltage and the second voltage between a control terminal and a main terminal of the power switch, gate drive channel configured to continue the driving of the first power switch for a time duration after the signal indicating the shut-down or the fault.

Abstract: Parallel connected power converters using push-pull feedback networks are described herein. The power converters may be switch-mode (switching) power converters (SMPSs) controlled by load dependent signals such that switching frequency increases as a function of load. The load dependent signals (i.e., controller signals) may drive the push-pull feedback networks to adjust the voltage regulation feedback signals and to equalize the output current (i.e., output power) from the parallel-connected power converters.

Abstract: A method for making an energy transfer element provides a magnetic core having a gap in a magnetic path, positions in the gap magnetizable material that produces an initial flux density, cures the suspension medium, and wraps one or more power windings around the magnetic path. When the magnetizable material is magnetized, a flux density produced by the magnetized material is offset from the initial flux density. The magnetizable material comprises a mixture of a suspension medium that includes uncured epoxy and magnetizable particles. The magnetizable particles are capable of permanent magnetic properties when magnetized. The particles of magnetic material having magnetic permeability of at least 1000μo. The particles of magnetic material that have a magnetic permeability of at least 1000μo and the particles of magnetizable particles are uniformly distributed in the suspension medium.

Abstract: A controller for a power converter includes a primary controller and a secondary controller. The primary controller is coupled to a primary winding of the energy transfer element and a primary switch of the power converter. The secondary controller is coupled to a secondary winding of the energy transfer element and a secondary switch, e.g., a synchronous rectifier, of the power converter. The secondary controller has a synchronous rectifier control/drive circuit, a control logic circuit, and a cross conduction detector circuit. Cross conduction is when the primary switch turns on when the secondary switch is active. The cross-conduction detector circuit produces a Disable SR signal when cross conduction event detected. The cross-conduction detector circuit detects zero voltage switching cross conduction event and a minimum conduction period cross conduction event. The SR drive circuit disables the synchronous rectifier in response to receiving the Disable SR signal.

Abstract: Pulse sharing control to enhance performance in multiple output power converters is described herein. During a switching cycle, an energy pulse is provided to more than one port (i.e., output) using pulse sharing transfer. Pulse sharing transfer may enhance performance by reducing audible noise due to subharmonics and by reducing a root mean square current of one or more secondary currents. A primary switch is closed to energize an energy transfer element via a primary current. Energy may be shared among a first load port on a first circuit path via a first secondary current and among a second load port on a second circuit path via a second secondary current.
