    摘要: A heating and cooling apparatus having a first gas conduit, a second gas conduit and at least one thermoelectric module. In a first embodiment, structure is provided to introduce moisture into the second gas conduit, upstream of that conduit's association with the thermoelectric module. The introduction of the moisture into the gas within the second gas conduit functions to decrease the temperature between the temperature of the gas in the first conduit and the temperature of the gas in the second conduit, thereby optimizing the operation of the thermoelectric module. In a second embodiment a plurality of thermoelectric modules are arranged in an array and positioned between the gas conduits and associated therewith. The power supplied to each of the thermoelectric modules is adjusted to correspond to an optimum power input calculated for each thermoelectric module respectively. This calculation utilizes a temperature differential between the temperature of the thermoelectric material at the junction of the thermoelectric module with the first gas conduit and the temperature of the thermoelectric material at the junction of the thermoelectric module with the second gas conduit.

    摘要: Piston rod assembly includes a composite piston rod having an entrapment ridge along the length thereof, and a non-integral metallic piston head having two separate piston head sections which are welded together in preloaded engagement against opposite sides of the entrapment ridge. The entrapment ridge has oppositely facing external tapered ramp surfaces which are engaged by correspondingly tapered internal ramp surfaces on the respective piston head sections. When the piston head sections are initially brought into engagement with opposite sides of the entrapment ridge, there is a slight gap between the inner faces on the piston head sections which determines the amount of preload force that must be applied to the piston head sections to eliminate the gap and bring the inner faces into substantial mating engagement with each other for welding.

    摘要: Piston rod assembly includes a piston head and rod which are formed separately and subsequently jointed together by injecting adhesive through a porting passage in the piston head into an annular space formed by an internal groove in the piston head and an external surface of the rod to provide a bonded joint therebetween. The piston head includes a radially enlarged center dam portion and a pair of reduced diameter end portions extending coaxially from opposite sides of the center dam portion. The internal groove extends axially beyond opposite sides of the center dam portion for a substantial portion of the length of the reduced diameter end portions. The reduced diameter end portions are externally tapered radially inwardly from opposite sides of the enlarged center dam portion toward opposite ends of the reduced diameter end portions to provide a gradual build-up of stiffness in the piston head from the opposite ends of the bonded joint toward the middle. Also, integral rod sleeve portions extend from opposite ends of the reduced diameter end portions over a substantial portion of the length of the rod to provide a barrier around the rod impermeable to hydraulic fluid.

    摘要: Helical splined rotary actuator includes a pair of cylinder housings having inboard ends rotatably mounted in coaxial alignment on opposite ends of a center sleeve member. Contained within the housings are pistons having relatively large diameter helical spline connections with the inner diameters of the housings and smaller diameter straight spline connections with opposite ends of the sleeve member, whereby simultaneous axial movement of the pistons toward and away from each other causes relative rotation between the sleeve member and cylinder housings. The sleeve member may be connected to a first support intermediate the ends of the actuator. In like manner, the cylinder housings may be connected to a second support rotatable relative to the first support adjacent opposite ends of the sleeve member. End closures at the outboard ends of the housings have barrier sleeves extending coaxially into the outboard ends of the housings between the housings and pistons to act as barriers between the internal housing seals and external piston seals. The end closures are fixed relative to a shaft pinned to the sleeve member intermediate the ends thereof, whereby the housings are rotatable relative to the barrier sleeves but not axially movable relative thereto and the pistons are axially movable relative to the barrier sleeves but not rotatable relative thereto.

At higher differential pressures outside the valve null region, the relief valves open to permit restricted flow through the respective orifices to reduce the pressure gain of the control valve in a region outside the valve null region, which effectively reduces the stiffness of the control valve.

    摘要: A flow control valve assembly including a valve having open and closed positions and a limited angle torque motor having two angular rotor positions corresponding to the open and closed valve positions that are stable in the absence of an applied electrical signal. The valve motor includes magnetic pole pieces forming a concentric shell around the motor shaft that include air gaps, disposed generally parallel to the axis of rotation of the shaft. Pole blades adjacent the rotor are magnetically linked to the pole pieces by flanges disposed at the rotor ends. Two alternative minimum reluctance flux paths are provided for a permanent magnet that is mounted on the rotor with its poles transverse to the axis of rotation. The two minimum reluctance paths provide the stable rotor positions. A magnetic flux sensor disposed in or proximate one of the air gaps is employed with a relatively high frequency electrical signal to determine relative rotor and valve positon. A current signal is applied to the stator coil of the motor to actuate the valve. The interaction of the magnetic field of the permanent magnet with the fields produced by the low and higher frequency electrical signals generate the actuation and rotor position responses, respectively.

    摘要: A composite pressure vessel includes retaining rings at opposite ends of a side wall structure having circumferentially spaced oppositely facing tabs thereon about which longitudinal tension windings are progressively wrapped back and forth in a continuous manner around the circumference of the vessel. Between the tabs at opposite ends of the vessel are oppositely tapered ramp surfaces providing a transition for the longitudinal tension windings from a first diameter axially inwardly of the retaining rings to a second, smaller diameter adjacent the axial outer ends of the tabs, which places the retaining rings in compression in a circumferential direction. Each of the retaining rings has a generally cylindrical support surface adjacent the axial outer ends of the tabs for supporting the generally circumferential extending portions of the longitudinal tension windings thereon. The tabs have sides which taper toward each other in the direction of the axial outer ends of the tabs. Also, the radial outer surfaces of the tabs taper outwardly in the direction of the axial outer ends of the tabs, and such axial outer ends are rounded and extend generally radially and axially inwardly toward the respective ends of the vessel.
