摘要: The present invention generally relates to devices able to purify fluids electrically that are contained within pressure vessels, as well as to methods of manufacture and use thereof. Liquids or other fluids to be purified enter the purification device and, under the influence of an electric field, are treated to produce an ion-depleted liquid. Species from the entering liquids are collected to produce an ion-concentrated liquid. Increasing the exterior pressure on the device may reduce the pressure difference between the interior of the device and the exterior, which may reduce manufacturing costs or simplify construction.

摘要: A wastewater treatment method. The method includes establishing a setpoint value of oxidation-reduction potential of a mixed liquor, measuring a measured value of oxidation-reduction potential of the mixed liquor, comparing the measured value of oxidation-reduction potential and the setpoint value of oxidation-reduction potential, generating a control signal based at least in part on the step of comparing, controlling operation of an aeration device using the control signal, acquiring at least one value corresponding to the control signal and adjusting the setpoint value of oxidation-reduction potential using the at least one value. The value includes a frequency of operation of the aeration device.

摘要: Contaminated wastewaters comprising biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), nitrogen and phosphorus are treated by an activated sludge process. The process utilizes an activated sludge tank, a solid-liquid separator, and a bioreactor to significantly reduce, or eliminate, waste activated sludge (WAS) within a sludge stream. A sidestream reactor is employed downstream from the bioreactor to remove soluble phosphates left in the sludge stream by the low WAS process. Within the sidestream reactor, a source of multivalent metal ions is added to a slightly alkaline sludge stream to precipitate the phosphates. The solid phosphates have a specific gravity higher than that of the organic matter in the sludge stream and may be separated from the sludge stream based upon differential settling velocity.

摘要: A method and apparatus for conditioning a sensor to measure an oxidation reduction potential of an aqueous solution such that the time to obtain a reliable oxidation reduction potential measurement is substantially reduced. Such conditioning is often necessary when the sensor is moved from potentiometric equilibrium (e.g., the sensor is cleaned, the sensor is exposed to air, and the like). The method may comprise generating a current through a measurement electrode and a reference electrode of the sensor for a duration of time. A reliable oxidation reduction potential measurement can be made as the voltage across the measurement electrode and the reference electrode stabilizes after the duration of time. Depending on the aqueous solution, the stabilized value can be constant or variable.

摘要: A wet oxidation process is used to control the concentration of reduced sulfur compounds from a viscose process. The wet oxidation process oxidizes the reduced sulfur compounds to convert such reduced sulfur compounds to an alkali sulfate and/or thiosulfate species. The alkali sulfate stream is recycled to the viscose process. Oxidation is performed under elevated temperature and pressure conditions such that the offgas has an oxygen concentration of between about 2% to 18% and the alkali sulfate stream has a pH of about 2 to 10.
