    摘要: An influential persons identification system and method for identifying a set of influential persons (or influencers) in a social network (such as an online social network). The influential persons set is generated such that by sending a message to the set the message will be propagated through the network at the greatest speed and coverage. A ranking of users is generated, and a pruning process is performed starting with the top-ranked user and working down the list. For each user on the list, the user is identified as an influencer and then the user and each of his friends are deleted from the social network users list. Next, the same process is performed for the second-ranked user, the third-ranked user, and so forth. The process terminates when the list of users of the social network is exhausted or the desired number of influencers on the influential person set is reached.

    摘要: An informative priors image search result summarization system and method that summarizes image search results based on the image relevance (as determined by a search engine's initial ranking) and the image quality. Embodiments of the system and method cluster the image search results, rank images within each cluster based on a computed image score, and then select a summary image for the cluster. Each cluster is analyzed and an image in the cluster having the maximum image score is included in a selected summary collection. The image score is computed using the image relevance and the image quality, as well as a cluster coherence, a density, and a diversity. The selection of images from a collection of candidate images generates an image search result summarization, which is presented to a user. The summaries are presented to the user in a ranked order based on their image scores.

    摘要: The present invention relates includes system and a method for automatically generating short segments of video (or video “cliplets”) from a larger source video. A cliplet has the properties that its length is determined prior to generation and that the cliplet ideally is semantically meaningful and contains a single short event or theme. Generally, the cliplet generation method processes a large source video and generates cliplet results for presentation (such as to a user). Specifically, the method processes the source video to determine editing points and then extracts cliplets from the source video based on the editing points. The extracted cliplets can overlap in time. Cliplet results then are presented, such as to a user. The cliplet generation system includes a video cliplet generator that processes a large source video and generates cliplets in accordance with the cliplet generation method.

Embodiments of the flexible query hints system and method include a power hints (Phints) language that enables the specification of constraints to influence a query optimizer. Phints expressions are defined as tree patterns annotated with constraints. Embodiments of the flexible query hints system and method also include techniques to incorporate the power hints language expressions into an extended query optimizer. Theses techniques include computing a directed acyclic graph for Phints expression, deriving candidate matches using the Phints expression and the graph, computing candidate matches, and extracting a revised execution plan having a lowest cost and satisfying constraints of the Phints expression. Embodiments of the flexible query hints system and method include a flexible query hint user interface that allow users to interactively adjust query hints.

    摘要: A method and system for synthesizing texture using upsampled pixel coordinates and a multi-resolution approach. The parallel texture synthesis technique, while based on a neighborhood matching technique having order-independent texture synthesis, extends that approach in at least two areas, including efficient parallel synthesis and intuitive user control. Pixel coordinates are upsampled instead of pixel colors, thereby reducing computational complexity and expense. These upsampled pixel coordinates then are jittered to provide texture variation. The jitter is controllable, such that a user has control over several aspects of the jitter. In addition, each neighborhood-matching pass is split into several sub-passes to improve correction. Using sub-passes improves correction speed and quality. The parallel texture synthesis system and method disclosed herein is designed for implementation on a parallel processor, such as a graphics processing unit.

    摘要: System and method for estimating and tracking an orientation of a user's face by combining head tracking and face detection techniques. The orientation of the face, or facial pose, can be expressed in terms of pitch, roll and yaw of the user's head. Facial pose information can be used, for example, to ascertain in which direction the user is looking. In general, the facial pose estimation method obtains a position of the head and a position of the face and compares the two to obtain the facial pose. In particular, a camera is used to obtain an image containing a user's head. Any movement of the user's head is tracked and the head position is determined. A face then is detected on the head and the face position is determined. The head and face positions then are compared.

    摘要: An automatic digital image grouping system and method for automatically generating groupings of related images based on criteria that includes image metadata and spatial information. The system and method takes an unordered and unorganized set of digital images and organizes and groups related images into image subsets. The criteria for defining an image subset varies and can be customized depending on the needs of the user. Metadata (such as EXIF tags) already embedded inside the images is used to extract likely image subsets. This metadata may include the temporal proximity of images, focal length, color overlap, and geographical location. The first component of the automatic image grouping system and method is a subset image stage that analyzes the metadata and generates potential image subsets containing related images. The second component is an overlap detection stage, where potential image subset is analyzed and verified by examining pixels of the related images.

In general, the network simulation system includes a recording module that resides on a server and records and stores the network characteristics associated with networks sessions in a data collector file. The system also includes a playback module that resides on a client and receives the data collector file and plays back the data collector file upon request. The recording method of the present invention includes using a global filter residing on the server to record the network characteristics and storing the recording in a data collector file. The playback method includes receiving a data collector file containing recorded network characteristics recorded on a server and playing back the data collector file to simulate the characteristics of real-world network sessions.

In general, the method and system determine the relative pose between two cameras by measuring a path the movement of the object makes within a scene and calculating transformation parameters based on these measurements. These transformation parameters are used to determine the relative position of each camera with respect to a base camera. The system and method include other novel features, such as a data synchronization feature that uses a time offset between cameras to obtain the transformation parameters, and a technique that improves the robustness and accuracy of solving for the transformation parameters, and an interpolation process that interpolates between sampled points if there is no data at a particular instant in time.

    摘要: A method and system for modifying a digital audio signal to vary its playback speed while preserving the signal's pitch and quality. The variable speed playback (VSP) system and method mitigates artifacts remaining after processing by existing techniques. The VSP system and method produces a consistent and pleasing sound to an audio file, even while its speed is varied during playback. The VSP method includes selecting and estimating an input frame, adjusting the frame position, and overlapping and adding the adjust frame to an output signal. The frame position adjustment is achieved using an enhanced correlation technique that finds all local maxima over a cross-correlation function. The local maxima having a highest correlation score is designated as a cut position, where the adjusted frame is cut from the input buffer. The VSP system and method using four input frames to generate one output frame.
