摘要: The invention provides an evaporation process and apparatus for an aqueous solution containing dissolved solids, such as mineral salts, without adherence of the solids to any surface contacting the aqueous solution. Heated immiscible oil is used as the heat transfer liquid which makes liquid/liquid contact with the solution, preferably in the form of a highly dispersed mixture of the solution and oil from a cooler part of the system in a mixing chamber whereby the solution droplets are vaporized by intimate contact with the hot oil. The mixture of hot oil and aqueous solution is fed from the mixing chamber into an evaporation chamber wherein all or a portion of remaining aqueous solution is converted to vapor by cascading downward over baffles, and the solids and liquid components of the mixture are separated into strata in the lower portion of the evaporating chamber. The oil stratum is continuously withdrawn, most of it being re-cycled to the heating and evaporation zones. The aqueous solution stratum is continuously withdrawn and re-cycled to the original evaporation step or on to a second stage evaporation step if so desired. The solids slurry is removed separately for separation of solids from liquids in a suitable solids-liquid separator. Apparatus surfaces exposed to the aqueous solution including particularly the mixing chamber, the heating elements in the oil heating chamber, and the evaporation chamber and parts therein are coated with a material which is preferentially oil wettable and zero water adsorbent. The immiscible oil circulating through the mixing chamber and evaporation chamber wets the surfaces therein, preventing adherence of solids and acting as a flushing agent to prevent sedimentation of solids thereon. All contacting apparatus surface is exposed to the aqueous solution should be smooth and free from sharp edges and should, preferably, be preferentially oil wettable. Multiple stage evaporators (details not shown) utilizing the methods herein disclosed may be used in order to conserve heat and selectively separate mineral components where feasible.

摘要: The method of evaporating an aqueous feed solution containing dissolved and/or suspended solids or mineral salts without adherence of the solids or mineral salts to any surfaces contacting the aqueous solution, such surfaces being hereinafter referred to as fluid contacting surfaces. The method is carried out in an apparatus comprising a main vessel having an outer wall and containing a vertical, open-ended heating zone spaced from the outer wall. The heating zone has heating means therein and a settling zone below the heating zone, and succeeding separating zones, both inside and outside the mail vessel; SAID HEATING ZONE, HEATING MEANS, SETTLING ZONE AND SEPARATING MEANS HAVING FLUID CONTACTING SURFACES AND ALL FLUID CONTACTING ZONES WITHIN SAID APPARATUS BEING PREFERENTIALLY OIL WETTABLE AND ALL FLUID CONTACTING SURFACES WITHIN THE CONFINING HEATING ZONE COMPRISING SUBSTANTIALLY ZERO WATER ADSORBENT FLUOROCARBON POLYMERS. The method comprises the following steps: A. SUPPLYING THE FEED SOLUTION, PRIOR TO ENTRY INTO THE HEATING ZONE, INTO AN ORGANIC LIQUID IMMISCIBLE WITH THE AQUEOUS FEED SOLUTION, INTIMATELY MIXING SAID ORGANIC LIQUID AND AQUEOUS SOLUTION; B. FEEDING THE MIXTURE CENTRALLY INTO SAID MAIN VESSEL DOWNWARDLY TO A DISCHARGE POINT BELOW THE HEATING ZONE BUT ABOVE THE SETTLING ZONE, PASSING THE SAID MIXTURE UPWARDLY THROUGH SAID HEATING ZONE, PASSING THE SAID MIXTURE UPWARDLY THROUGH SAID HEATING ZONE AND INTO CONTACT WITH THE HEATING MEANS THEREIN WHEREBY ALL FLUID CONTACTING SURFACES WITHIN THE CONFINING HEATING ZONE ARE WETTED WITH SAID ORGANIC LIQUID, SUPPLYING SUFFICIENT HEAT TO THE MIXTURE WITHIN SAID HEATING ZONE TO EFFECT AT LEAST PARTIAL EVAPORATION OF THE AQUEOUS SOLUTION, CONVERTING A PORTION AT LEAST OF THE AQUEOUS SOLUTION TO MISTY WATER VAPOR AND SOLIDS SLURRY, AND C. SEPARATING THE RESULTING MIXTURE COMPRISING IMMISCIBLE ORGANIC LIQUID AND MISTY VAPORS, SOLIDS-SLURRY AND AQUEOUS SOLUTION INTO COMPONENTS, IN SAID SUCCEEDING SEPARATING ZONES.

摘要: This invention relates to the provision of novel and economical ways of: (1) Heat bonding, solely with heat, plastics, particularly the fluorocarbon polymers and specifically the polymer hexafluoropropylenetetrafluoroethylene manufactured exclusively by E. I. duPont de Nemours & Company and sold under the trade name of FEP, to metal surfaces, particularly flexible metal sheets and plates. (2) Heat bonding or adhesive cement bonding these small metal sheet-plastic laminates to other metal surfaces, particularly those of pipes and vessels. (3) Fabrication of composite tubes or sleeves, solely by heat bonding of seams of these composite sheets shaped into tubes or sleeves, said tubes or sleeves being useful alone as conduits for fluids or which may be heat or adhesive cement bonded to other metal pipes and vessels, as protective coats and liners, and method and means for installing said liners.
