The line or cord is provided with adjusting means for varying the length of the cord from a maximum length to one-half thereof, thereby enabling the ball return speed to be controlled by setting a desired or predetermined length for the elastic cord. The greater the length of the elastic cord, the slower the return of the tennis ball.
