The invention concerns a method of welding two metal parts together. The first part and the second part are made of metal or metal alloys and the reflectivity of the first part is lower than or equal to the reflectivity of the second part. Typically the first part is made of brass and the second part is made of copper. In the common welding zone, the less reflective part covers the most reflective part, so the laser beam is directed only against the less reflective part. The advantage of this is that the laser beam is not directly in contact with the high reflective part so less energy is reflected away from the welding zone.

The invention provides a method of making a component from first and second parts which are joined in a welding process wherein a laser beam is transmitted in a direction from a laser source and at least partly into a gap. The gap is made between edges of the component, and to enable a faster laser welding process, the laser has a focus point size which is at least of the size of the gap. To enable better control of the width of the gap, the invention further provides a method and components wherein one part is formed with a neck which extends into a complementary socket of the other part to prepare the parts for the welding process. The invention in particular concerns welding of brass.

One diaphragm (8) is in contact with the refrigerant, the other (10) is in contact with the filling fluid. The two diaphragms (8, 10) may have different active areas. In combination with the connection between the two diaphragms (8, 10) this provides a ‘pressure gearing’ between the filling fluid and the refrigerant. Allows the pressure of the filling fluid to be relatively low even when the pressure of the refrigerant is high, while ensuring that the valve (4) can function properly. Particularly suitable for high pressure refrigeration systems, such as CO2 systems.

In a valve, in particular an expansion valve for refrigeration systems, at least the housing (2) and all nozzles (3, 4, 5) are deep-drawn parts of stainless steel having a carbon content of less than 0.05%. These parts are joined to one another by soldering. The steel has such a low content of carbon that despite being subjected to the effects of heat during soldering, it is practically insensitive to intercrystalline corrosion. This produces a visually attractive valve that is not harmful to the environment.

A valve, especially a thermostatic expansion valve, has a setpoint spring which bears on a plate having a sloping face. A setpoint adjusting device is provided in a housing connecting tube. The adjusting device has a pressure-applying piece having a contact face engaging the sloping face, is secured against rotation and has a threaded bore. An adjusting screw which is supported on the connecting tube against axial displacement engages in this threaded bore. In this construction, the connecting tube requires no machining.
