摘要： A driver side inflator base for a vehicle safety system which is stamped from a thin sheet of aluminum. The base includes a central axis, a plurality of stamped concentric rings extending upwardly from a bottom of the base and spaced from the central axis. An interface attachment flange is provided for mounting the inflator, and a squib pocket extending about the central axis of the base is capable of holding a squib of the gas inflator. The concentric rings, attachment flange and squib pocket are all formed during the stamping of the base; thus, excessive machining is not required. Only minor machining is necessary to complete the base. The base of the present invention is designed to reduce the overall inflator cost, while maintaining the processing capability and quality of current bases.

摘要： A convertible garment that is reconfigurable from a garment to a neck pillow. The neck pillow may be generally U-shaped to fit about the neck of a wearer. The garment may include a pocket generally corresponding in shape to desired shape of the neck pillow. The pocket is of sufficient size to receive the remainder of the garment so that the remainder of the garment can be inserted into the pocket. The pocket may be sized so that the remainder of the garment substantially fills the pocket, thereby providing a relatively firm neck pillow capable of providing the desired level of neck support. The pocket may have a closure, such as a zipper, to retain the remainder of the garment in the pocket. The garment may be a jacket with the pocket located in the lower back that opens to the inside of the garment. The pocket may be manufactured from or lined with a soft material, such as a brushed tricot or a fleece.

摘要： An airbag inflator having a reduced area filter and cartridge-loaded generant. The inflator has a tubular housing with a plurality of exit ports in a limited angular extent. A filter having the general shape of a section of a tube is received within the housing within the extent of the exit ports. The filter has lateral edges which are compressed to reduce the thickness of the filter along these edges, increasing the inner diameter of the filter. A hollow cylindrical cartridge may be provided to house a quantity of pyrotechnic gas generant. The cylindrical cartridge is received within the housing, with the filter interposed between the cartridge and the exit ports. The increased inner diameter of the filter permits the use of a larger diameter cartridge compared to a filter which has not had its lateral edges compressed, which in turn permits a shorter inflator to hold the same volume of generant. The housing may be formed by double impact extrusion to have two separate interiors, each having a generant cartridge. This will permit the cartridges to be fired separately, providing adaptive performance for the inflator.

摘要： An air bag inflator for inflating an air bag includes a housing for generating gas having only two walled chambers, including a centrally disposed ignition chamber and an outer chamber in coaxial relation therewith. The outer chamber provides a dual function of containing a quantity of gas generating material in an inner portion thereof and holding a filter for cooling and collecting contaminants from the generated gas in an outer portion thereof. The filter is mounted with an inlet face of substantial area in direct contact with and surrounding a body of gas generating material and no wall is provided between the filter and the generating material.

摘要： A gas generant body having a plurality of alike, flat-surfaced projections equally spaced and radially equidistant about the periphery of one or both sides of the body. The spaced projections are defined by curved or arcuate walls emanating from the center of the generant body which flare outwardly to the body's perimeter, each having an angular arc length greater than the space therebetween. The outer edge of each projection is preferably contiguous with the perimeter of the body. When the projections are on both sides, as is preferred, the projections on one side are preferably in a staggered or offset relationship to those on the other side. A washer-shaped wafer disc is the most preferred overall generant body form. A stack or assembly of the multiprojection generant wafers may be formed into an array for use in a gas generator for an automobile gas bag inflator. Each generant wafer acts as its own spacer, can be assembled independent of orientation, will not mesh or interlock with adjacent wafers and does not need extra inflator hardware.
