    摘要: Two or more spatial filters are used in determining velocity based on speckle translation. A light source may be turned on, turned off, or both for a variable amount of time during operation. The velocity may then be determined with trend identification, correlation, recursive frequency estimation, or measurement bandwidth variation. A confidence level may also be calculated for the measured velocity, and the measured velocity reported or used only when the calculated confidence level meets or exceeds a given value.

    摘要: A three-dimensional optical switch using three-dimensional rewritable waveguides in a photosensitive substrate. At least two light beams are used to illuminate the substrate in the region where the waveguide is to be written. The refractive index of the substrate changes at the points where the beams intersect. Therefore, the light beams can be directed to create a three-dimensional waveguide in the photosensitive substrate. A plurality of inlet ports in one surface of the substrate are thereby connected to a plurality of outlet ports on another surface of the substrate. Alternatively, the inlet ports and the outlet ports may be on the same surface of the substrate. The invention also provides methods of creating waveguides in photosensitive media using the device described herein.

    摘要: The frequency-selective optical multiplexer comprises, an LC polarization controller, a spectral demux/mux and input/output optics including two ports, a first optical path spatially separated from a second optical path and polarization-dispersive optics. The polarization dispersive optics are disposed between the ports and the optical paths; generate from an optical signal a pair of polarization components, composed of a first polarization component and a second polarization component having orthogonal polarizations; and output the first and second polarization components via the first and second optical paths, respectively. The first and second polarization components have first and second polarizations when the optical signal is received at one port, and have the second and the first polarizations, respectively, when the optical signal is received at the other port. The spectral demux/mux generates first pairs of spatially-separated spectral components from a first pair of orthogonal polarization components received from the input/output optics, outputs the spectral components to the polarization controller, receives respective second pairs of spectral components from the polarization controller, and spatially overlaps the second pairs of spectral components to generate a second pair of polarization components. Either the first pair or the second pair of polarization components passes between the spectral demux/mux and the input/output optics via the optical paths. The polarization controller receives the first pairs of spectral components at a zero angle of incidence, and rotates the polarizations of each of them individually and selectively through 0° or 90° to generate one of the second pairs of spectral components.

A second plurality of stages each support a ferrule surrounding an end portion of a corresponding one of M optical output fibers. Mechanical mechanisms translate the stages along a plurality of orthogonal X and Y axes to align a facet of a selected one of the N input optical fibers with a facet of a selected one of the M output optical fibers. The stages of the input optical fibers, the output optical fibers, or both, have mechanical mechanisms for moving the ferrules along Z axes perpendicular to the X and Y axes into and out of alignment holes of a central panel to physically mate the facets of the coupled fibers.

    摘要: A spatial light modulator for use in a photolithography system includes light modulation elements configured to photolithographically transfer an image onto a substrate using an optical oversampling technique to reduce defects in the transferred image. A first set of the light modulation elements is operable to photolithographically transfer a portion of the image onto an area of a substrate, and a second set of the light modulation elements is operable to photolithographically transfer the portion of the image onto the area of the substrate. The spatial light modulator further includes memory elements in communication with respective light modulation elements for storing data representing the portion of the image.
