摘要： A method and a system to conduct an on-line auction within a network-based commerce system with respect to offerings on a registry. The method includes in particular receiving offer data pertaining to offerings from a plurality of potential sellers, the offer data including seller identification data and offering identification data. A registry associated with at least one registry owner is provided, with the registry including registry owner data, registry user data and a registry offerings list including offering identification data associated with offerings selected by the registry. Access to the registry's offerings list is provided to a plurality of registry users on the registry users list. Bid data from one of the registry users on a particular offering on the registry's offerings list is then received.

The system receives a request for a user interface that includes a first area and a second area that are complementary in size. The system utilizes the first area utilized to display data items and the second area to display other information. The system determines a size of the first area by computing a number of data items that are to be displayed in the first area and generates the user interface to include the first area in the second area, the first area being of the determined size.

Next, the system computes a quantity of the first plurality of data items by counting the first plurality of data items and compares the quantity of the first plurality of data items with a determined threshold to identify the quantity of the first plurality of data items as being greater than the determined threshold. Next, the system presents a user interface, over the network, to the computer system, the user interface includes the second plurality of data items, and further includes at least one user interface element responsive to the identification of the quantity of the first plurality of data items as greater than the determined threshold. The at least one user interface element is selectable to browse the first plurality of data items.
