    摘要: A method, a system, and a computer program product for performing a backup of data are disclosed. A grid server in a plurality of grid servers is selected for deduplicating a segment of data in a plurality of segments of data contained within a data stream. The segment of data is forwarded to the selected grid server for deduplication. A zone contained within the forwarded segment of data is deduplicated using the selected server. The deduplication is performed based on a listing of a plurality of zone stamps. Each zone stamp in the plurality of zone stamps represents a zone in a plurality of zones deduplicated by at least one server in the plurality of grid servers.

    摘要: A system, a method, and a computer program product for adaptive scheduled periodic caching are disclosed. A data stream is received. The data stream contains a plurality of versions of data arranged in a plurality of data clusters. Each data cluster includes an anchor version having a plurality of versions of data dependent on the anchor version. A size of each anchor version of each data cluster is determined. A number of versions of data dependent on each anchor version is also determined. For each anchor version, a ratio of the determined number of dependent versions of data to the determined size of each anchor is computed. At least one anchor version for storing in a memory location is selected based on the computed ratio.

    摘要: A method, a system, and a computer-implemented method for performing multi-level deduplication of data are disclosed. A zone stamp is generated for each zone in a plurality of zones contained in at least one data stream. The zone stamp is compared to another zone stamp. The zone stamp and another zone stamp represent zones in the plurality of zones. The comparison is performed for zones at corresponding zone levels based on a determination that a zone stamp of a zone of a preceding zone level is not similar to another zone stamp of another preceding zone level. The zone at the preceding zone level includes at least one zone of a next zone level having a size smaller than or equal to a size of the zone of the preceding zone level. The zone and another zone are deduplicated based on a determination that the zone stamp is similar to another zone stamp.

The method includes receiving a data stream, analyzing the received data stream to determine a starting location and an ending location of each zone within the received data stream, based on the starting and ending locations, generating a zone stamp identifying the zone, the zone stamp includes a sequence of contiguous characters representing at least a portion of data in the zone, wherein the order of characters in the zone stamp corresponds to the order of data in the zone, comparing the zone stamp with another zone stamp of another zone in any data stream received, determining whether the zone is substantially similar to another zone by detecting that the zone stamp is substantially similar to another zone stamp, delta-compressing zones within any data stream received that have been determined to have substantially similar zone stamps, thereby deduplicating zones having substantially similar zone stamps within any data stream received, and transmitting the deduplicated zones across the network from one storage location to another storage location.

    摘要: A technique for starting up a data processing system in which a "basic" or "kernel" instruction set is stored in an auxiliary store and transferred to the processor's control store in start-up. The kernel instruction set in used to execute an initialization program which identifies an I/O device in which a microcode local program and a desired microcode file are stored. No microcode load program is transferred to the processor's main memory, using the kernel instructions and the desired microcode file is then transferred in selected blocks from the I/O device to the main memory and there to the microcode control store. The microinstructions of the desired microcode file then can be used to load appropriate operating system software so that the overall processor is then ready for use in whatever applications are desirable.
