    摘要: A grease injection control head for maintaining a seal about a wire performing wireline operations in a well. A tubular body includes a grease injection port for injecting grease for counteracting pressure in the well with a vent port above the injection port for venting fluids. A plurality of tubular members are provided in the body positioned between the injection port and the vent port. Each member includes a close fitting longitudinal bore for passage of a wireline for providing a grease pressure seal. The members are telescopically and sealably joined to adjacent members. The members include an enlarged cavity about the bore at each end for providing a turbulent grease chamber between adjacent members for distributing the pressure drop along the body for reducing loading on the wire and friction with a minimum length body. The length of a longitudinal bore relative to the longitudinal length of a chamber is no greater than 5:1. The body includes a second vent port above the first vent port for acting as a wiper vent port with one or more tubular members between the vent ports. A gas trap may be provided in the body below the injection port for trapping gas from the well. The trap includes means for diverting rising gas from the bore.

    摘要: An apparatus for measuring bottom hole conditions such as pressure in the tubing of a well including a locking and sealing sub to lock into and seal against the interior of the tubing, an isolation valve connected in the sub and a measuring instrument connected to the valve for measuring conditions in the tubing. The isolation valve has a bore with an annular seat in the bore and side ports leading into the bore below the seat. A valve element is longitudinally movable in the valve between an open position below the ports and a closed position against the seat and includes an elongate mandrel having a backup shoulder. A latch mechanism initially holds the valve in the open position and includes a collet member initially engaging the mandrel and holding the valve element in the open position and the collet is held in a latched position by a spring loaded backup shoulder. Spring means yieldably urge the collet out of engagement with the mandrel and close the valve when the backup shoulder is moved out of engagement with a collet. The valve flow passageway is as large as the bore through the locking sub. A closing prong which actuates the valve to the closed position has a cross-sectional area substantially smaller than the valve passageway.

    摘要: A well safety valve for controlling the fluid flow through a well tubing in which the valve is biased closed. When fluid control pressure is supplied from the well surface, the valve is opened, but the valve closes when the control pressure exceeds a predetermined value. The tubular member controlling the actuation of the valve member includes a first upper and a second lower telescoping section with releasable locking means normally securing the telescoping sections together. A stop shoulder is positioned in the path of movement of the second section in the opening direction for actuating the release of the locking means when the control fluid force exceeds said predetermined value, and the second telescoping section is moved in a closing direction for closing the valve member when the locking means is released. The locking means may be either a shear pin or a resettable lock.

    摘要: A mandrel for use in a well tubing in which the mandrel body has an open bore for alignment with the well tubing and a sidepocket offset from the open bore for receiving flow control devices. An integrally forged sub is welded to the top of the body and includes an actuating shoulder angularly spaced from the axis of the offset pocket a predetermined amount and a guide surface is positioned below the shoulder and directed upwardly towards the shoulder. A deflector guide is positioned in the offset bore above the pocket and includes a pair of rails forming a guide path which allows the entrance of flow control devices in the pocket but prevents the entrance of open bore tools into the guide path. The deflector guide and the pocket are telescopically secured to each other by coacting flat surfaces for insuring transverse alignment therebetween and include abutting coacting shoulders for maintaining proper axial spacing between the locking lug and the pocket.

The tubular member includes first and second telescoping sections which are releasably locked together in an intermediate extended position for normally opening and closing the valve on movement of the tubular member. The releasable locking means is constructed to release upon the application of a predetermined force less than a force sufficient to cause damage to the valve whereby on application of an excessive force the sections will telescope towards each other preventing damage to the valve. Coacting shoulder means are provided between the valve body and lower telescoping member to automatically extend the telescoping sections on upward movement of the tubular member.

    摘要: A method and system for recovering fluids from a hydrocarbon-bearing subsurface formation includes a first tubing string run into the well and a second tubing string run within the first tubing string. The annulus between the first and second tubing strings is sealed above a liquid level in the well and at least one fluid passageway is provided between the first and second tubing strings at a location between the liquid level and adjacent the annulus seal. The difference of the liquid head between the inside of the second tubing string opposite the at least one fluid passageway and the outside of the second tubing string (i.e. the first and second tubing string annulus) provides the casing annulus-to-tubing differential pressure that forces gas above the annulus fluid level to pass through the at least one fluid passageway and re-enter the fluid stream in the second tubing string. As less gas or more liquid is produced, the liquid level in the annulus rises and less pressure differential is available to force the gas through the at least one fluid passageway; therefore, less gas will flow into the second tubing string fluid. If more gas or less liquid is produced, the liquid level in the annulus will drop; thereby, creating more pressure differential and more gas will pass into the second tubing string. In this manner, a self regulating system is created that prevents liquid loading of the well.

    摘要: A circulating (kill) valve for hot, high pressure wells includes a valve assembly to be positioned in an open-ended tubular-shaped side-pocket housing of a mandrel connected into a well tubing string. The valve assembly includes an open-ended cylindrical valve body provided with an interior sealing seat and spaced-apart side openings. A valve element is arranged within the valve body and is urged by unbalanced pressures to the open or closed position depending on the direction of the pressure imbalance. In the closed position a sealing surface on the exterior of the valve element engages and seals with the lower interior sealing seat of the valve body. A ported access to the inner well string pressure permits that pressure to urge the valve element to the closed position. Such pressure may be overcome by pressure imbalance when fluid pressure exterior of the tubing string forces the valve element upwardly from its seat. A wiper seal is arranged on the interior of the valve body and engages the outer surface of the valve element. A ported access to inner tube pressure urges the valve element to the closed position which may be overcome by pressure imbalance when exterior pressure forces the valve element from its seat.

    摘要: A well locking device and method of operation including a well lock and a landing nipple for locking well equipment in the production string of oil and/or gas wells. The well lock includes two sets of locking dogs, one of which locks the well lock in the landing nipple and holds against loads either from above or below the lock. The second set of locking dogs prevents the release of the well lock from the nipple when a pressure differential exists across the lock. A locking nipple includes first and second recesses and a stop shoulder and the coacting well lock includes a housing carrying first and second locking dogs in which the vertical spacing of the first and second locking dogs is less than the vertical distance between the tops of the first and second recesses. A seal is positioned on the exterior of the well lock housing and adapted to seal in the locking nipple, and locating means are provided on the housing for engaging the stop shoulder of the nipple. The lock can be released only by moving it downwardly and then upwardly, but any pressure below the lock sufficient to lift the lock back up after being moved downwardly will not allow the lock to be released.

The valve closure member in the valve body moves between an open and closed position in response to longitudinal movement of a tubular member. In addition, the tubular member has a plurality of telescoping sections and releasable and resettable locking means normally securing the plurality of sections together. A predetermined high tubing pressure or a predetermined low tubing pressure acting on the tubular member causes the valve to close.
