    摘要: A swellable, resilient interspinous implant is provided that includes a swellable polymeric medium, said polymeric medium being dispersed throughout the implant, the implant being dimensioned and configured to fit between two spinous processes of two adjacent vertebrae and buttress the space between the two adjacent vertebrae. In embodiments, the implant has a first configuration of reduced size such that it can be inserted into the patient in a minimally invasive manner. Once inserted to an application point within the patient, the implant expands in size to dynamically maintain the adjacent spinous processes in beneficial alignment. Also provided is a method of making a swellable, resilient interspinous implant as described herein. Also provided is a method of treating a degenerative condition of a spine which includes creating an incision and inserting, through the incision, between two spinous processes of two adjacent vertebrae, a swellable, resilient interspinous implant as described herein.

    摘要: A trapezium prosthesis is provided which includes a body having a frustocylindrical shape, the frustocylindrical shape including a frustum and an oppositely disposed planar base, the frustum being canted relative to a planar base. The prosthesis may be made of a swellable fluid absorbing polymer which imparts flexibility and/or resiliency to the prosthesis. The swellable fluid absorbing polymer may also provide the surface of the prosthesis with lubricity. In embodiments, the prosthesis has a first configuration and a second configuration, the first configuration being of reduced size relative to the second configuration. The prosthesis may also include a reinforcement member. In embodiments, the prosthesis includes a stem projecting outwardly from the frustum.

    摘要: An expandable intervertebral fusion cage that includes an inferior baseplate and a superior baseplate, an insert rotatbly received between the inferior and superior baseplates, and a guide pin coupled to the inferior and superior baseplates for facilitating the rotation of the insert. The insert includes a pair of protuberances, each of which are releasably engageable with a corresponding lock groove formed within the inferior and superior baseplates. When said insert is rotated relative to the guide pin, the protuberances engage the lock grooves, and the inferior and superior baseplates expand from a collapsed position, in which said inferior and superior baseplates are juxtaposed with one another, and an expanded position, in which said inferior and superior baseplates are diverged away from one another. As a result, the cage distracts in parallel. Tabs formed on the superior baseplate continuously engage slots formed within the inferior baseplate when the baseplates expand from their collapsed position to their expanded position.

    摘要: A swellable, resilient, flexible carpometacarpal (CMC) joint spacer is provided that is made of a swellable fluid absorbing polymeric medium, the spacer being dimensioned and configured to fit into the space between a natural or replacement trapezium and adjacent metacarpal bones and restore separation therebetween. In embodiments, the spacer has a cylindrical shape. In embodiments, the polymeric medium is a hydrogel. In embodiments, the spacer contains an internal reinforcement member. In embodiments, the spacer is delivered to a target site in at least a partially dehydrated state, whereupon it hydrates and expands to create positive pressure against opposing surfaces, thereby causing separation of the joint.
