    摘要: A resilient railway truck and vehicle suspension provides soft body springing while reducing axle to axle load transference. The axle-supported truck frame swivelly mounts a transverse subbolster and a transverse bolster is carried on the sub-bolster by elastomeric pad devices oppositely inclined longitudinally of the truck so that their normals intersect at a level below the axles, preferably about rail level. The bolster supports the body by upright springs at each side of the truck and is restrained against longitudinal movement or tilting movement about its transverse axis with respect to the body so that tipping movements of the truck relative to the body including those necessary to accommodate to changes in vertical track curvature occur about the intersection of the elastomeric pad device normals, thereby reducing or eliminating any vertical moment arm through which the tractive forces might act on the truck to cause objectionable axle to axle load transference.

    摘要: A pneumatic center bearing for slidably supporting a railway vehicle body on a swivel truck has a horizontal pad of friction material between opposed horizontal surfaces of the truck and body parts for the purpose of damping oscillations of the truck about its swivel axis. To reduce frictional resistance offered by the friction pad when the vehicle is rounding curves, one of the surfaces is apertured and means is provided for introducing compressed air into the apertures responsive to swivel movements of the truck and thereby partly support the body by the compressed air and thus reducing friction between the body part of the bearing and the truck part.

    摘要: A resiliently centered bolsterless truck for railway locomotives has a rigid frame spring supported from the axles and is arranged to support a locomotive underframe at points spaced apart longitudinally of the truck to stabilize the truck frame against tipping longitudinally and thereby eliminate load transfer from axle to axle which would otherwise result from such tipping. The supports for the underframe from the truck frame comprise three elastomeric pad devices, one of which is annular and surrounds the truck center pin about which the truck swivels. The other two support devices are spaced lengthwise of the truck from the annular pad and are transversely aligned with respect to each other. Each pad device is held against horizontal movement with respect to the truck frame and includes means for securing it against relative horizontal movement with respect to a supported locomotive underframe, so that swivel and transverse movements of the underframe on the truck are accommodated by horizontal shear in the elastomeric pads, thus eliminating metal-to-metal frictional engagement of the underframe and truck frame.

The bodies are connected to each other by a pivot structure above the center of the truck, which is connected to the truck frame to transmit longitudinal forces therebetween while accommodating relative swivel, transverse and vertical movements of the bodies with respect to the truck frame as are permitted by the springs.

    摘要: A process for surface treating or sizing glass beads and similar discrete particles such as silicon carbide, sand and the like, with a chemical adhesion promoter to provide the glass beads with water repellent and organic solvent repellent properties. The surface treatment improves adhesion of the bead to the substrate in which it is embedded, which may be paint or various types of organic binders. Because of the hydrophobic and oleophobic properties provided through repellent surface treatment, the beads do not sink through the binder but rather are floated thereon, and the top surfaces are exposed to provide for reflexreflective properties. The surface treating or sizing agent is an organo-titanium derivative, including alkyl-titanates, titaniumacylates, and titanium-chelates, in which between two and four of the coordination positions of the titanium are occupied by alkyl or aromatic groups.
