Three height adjustment valves are provided, and the three height adjustment valves form a triangular structure. Each of the first air spring set, the second air spring set and the third air spring set comprises a plurality of individual air springs, and all the individual air springs in each of the air spring sets are correspondingly connected to the same height adjustment valve. A system for train suspension control by means of multiple air springs and a train are further provided.

A railway vehicle body tilting system has a height control valve for supplying and discharging compressed air to and from an air spring by an actuator, an auxiliary control valve for supplying compressed air to the air spring and thereby causing a car body to tilt, a backup valve for switching the connection between the air spring and either the height control valve or the auxiliary control valve, and a controller installed in each of vehicles linked together as a train. During normal operation, the controller provided in each of the cars controls the height control valve of the respective car and monitors for faulty operation in other linked controllers. If a fault arises in a linked controller, control over the malfunctioning controller is terminated, and another normal controller controls a backup valve in the car with the malfunctioning control device.

Each spring system comprises three parallel springs, the spring being an air spring or hydropneumatic spring comprising a bellows of elastomer material which connects the supporting plate to the upper part of a spring-support piston, the springs of the spring system being interconnected in a pressure-equalizing manner by an overflow duct. The spring is disposed outside the spring and extends from the supporting plate to the substructure, and the spring is installed in the support piston of the spring, a force-transmitting pressure piston simultaneously being used. The lower part of the pressure piston rests on the spring and its upper part, which is provided with an end stop, projects into the interior of the spring, the pressure piston having inside the region of contact with the support piston a vertical slide surface and a stepped stop which produces pretension in conjunction with the spring.

A railway truck employs air springs at either side of the truck to provide a secondary suspension to support a car body, or an intermediate member between the car body and truck which in turn supports the car body. Protection against possible rupture of one of the air springs is provided by pressure responsive control valves connected to and associated with each of the air springs whereby when open, the valves exhaust fluid pressure from their associated air spring. Each control valve is pressure operated to be held in closed position by the pressure in the air spring on the other side of the truck. When one air spring ruptures the valve associated with the other air spring will open to exhaust fluid pressure from the other air spring. In the absence of a rupture each valve is held closed by the pressure in the other air spring. Leveling valves are also provided to automatically control the fluid pressure admitted to and exhausted from each of the air springs in accordance with the level of the car above the truck. In the event of uneven loading laterally of the truck the leveling valves will automatically admit fluid pressure to, or exhaust pressure from their associated air springs to compensate for the uneven loading.

A railway vehicle includes a truck having a pair of wheeled axles, truck framing supported on the axles, a vehicle body carried on the framing by separate flexible wall pneumatic spring devices seated on opposite sides of the truck framing. The truck framing is connected to the body to transmit longitudinal forces from the one to the other while accommodating their relative transverse and swivel movements. The spring devices are secured to the truck framing and have bearing means at their upper ends in slidable engagement with horizontal bearing surfaces on the vehicle body, the bearing means being vertically apertured to permit pressurized air from the spring devices to bear against the bearing surfaces. The bearing means includes a reservoir for the flexible wall springs, eliminating the need for apertures in the body bearing surface to provide for passage of air from body mounted reservoirs and the springs. Longitudinal links hold the bearing means against substantial longitudinal movement relative to the truck framing and additional generally transverse linkage means restrict the bearing means to arcuate movement about a vertical axis substantially at the intersection of the transverse center line of the truck and the longitudinal center line of the body.
