    摘要: A method and system for alerting a driver of a commercial vehicle or private vehicle, such as a truck or automobile, of an approaching emergency vehicle, such as a police or fire vehicle, and vice versa. The system includes a navigation information system in each vehicle, a transmitter in the second vehicle, a receiver in the first vehicle, a processing system, and a warning system in the first vehicle. Each navigation information system provides data that describe the geographic position and speed of the vehicle. The receiver in the first vehicle receives the navigation information transmitted by the second vehicle. The processor and associated electronics in the first vehicle determines the position and direction of travel of the second vehicle relative to the first vehicle. The warning system in the first vehicle provides a suitable indication to alert the driver if it is determined that the two vehicles are likely to collide.

    摘要: A disk and spindle motor assembly of a rotating disk drive is constrained from freely rotating when not in use to reduce fretting of the spindle assembly bearings in the presence of vibration. Preferably, a small electric current is driven through at least one of the spindle motor drive coils to hold the spindle assembly in a fixed angular position while the disk drive is not in use. The spindle motor is preferably a brushless DC motor comprising a multi-phase electrically driven stator and a permanent magnet rotor. Drive transistors normally drive the different phases under control of a processor. To constrain the drive, at least one of the drive transistors for a phase is activated. The rotor is preferably rotated periodically to a different angular position by driving a different phase of the stator. The rotor is alternatively constrained by mechanical means. The exemplary environment is an on-board motor vehicle application.

    摘要: A method for providing control accesses between a device on a non-proprietary bus and a device on a proprietary bus is disclosed. A gateway controller is connected between a proprietary bus and a non-proprietary bus. A message originated from a device on the non-proprietary bus intended for a device on the proprietary bus is checked by the gateway controller to determine if a transmission of the message should be permitted according to a permitted message bitmap. The permitted message bitmap contains a list of devices on the non-proprietary bus that are previously registered as able to communicate with devices on the proprietary bus and a list of permitted messages associated with each of the devices on the non-proprietary bus. The transmission of the message to the device on the proprietary bus is denied if the message is not registered within the permitted message bitmap.
