    摘要: A transient voltage surge suppressor assembly comprising: a first energy absorbing device; a second energy absorbing device in parallel with the first device; and a voltage sense circuit configured to take the first device off-line when a voltage swell lasts for a duration. The first and second devices may be wired in parallel between a line and a neutral. The assembly may include a third energy absorbing device wired between the line and a ground, the third device also being configured to be taken off-line when the voltage swell lasts for the duration. The voltage sense circuit may be powered by a line voltage or a lower supply voltage. The first device may be more sensitive than the second device. For example, the first device may have a lower clamping voltage than the second device. The first device may be smaller and/or include fewer components than the second device.

    摘要: A system and method may be configured to support the evaluation of the economic impact of uncertainties associated with the planning of a petroleum production project, e.g., uncertainties associated with decisions having multiple possible outcomes and uncertainties associated with uncontrollable parameters such as rock properties, oil prices, etc. The system and method involve receiving user input characterizing the uncertainty of planning variables and performing an iterative simulation that computes the economic return for various possible instantiations of the set of planning variables based on the uncertainty characterization. The system and method may (a) utilize and integrate highly rigorous physical reservoir, well, production flow, and economic models, and (b) provide a mechanism for specifying constraints on the planning variables. Furthermore, the system and method may provide a case manager process for managing multiple cases and associated “experimental runs” on the cases.

    摘要: The present disclosure provides an improved system and method that reduces fulgurites and their effects in a fuse. The fuse element can be at least partially coated with a high temperature elastomeric compound, such as a silicone, that can substantially withstand the heat of the current sufficient to “blow” the fuse and associated arcing, if any, and not allow the local melting of the sand to form the fulgurite. Thus, the elastomeric compound shields the sand from the arcing. The arcing can be suppressed faster by not allowing fulgurites to form near the arc to provide a channel for the arc. The arc can be suppressed quicker with less heat without the channel. In general, if a fulgurite is formed, it is formed near the beginning of the elastomeric coating that is distal from another part of the exposed fuse such that arcing, if any, is reduced.

    摘要: This invention relates generally to surge suppression and more particularly, to monitoring the integrity of a neutral-to-ground suppression circuit or other suppression circuit. In accordance with the present invention, a neutral-to-ground fault monitor is disclosed, eliminating one or more disadvantages associated with the prior art. One embodiment of the fault monitor includes a suppression circuit and a monitoring circuit where the suppression circuit includes a first terminal, a second terminal, a surge suppressor, and a current fuse, wherein the surge suppressor and the current fuse are operatively connected between the first terminal and the second terminal and where the monitoring circuit indicates a fault upon sensing a loss of functionality of the surge suppressor or the current fuse. Regardless of the cause of failure (e.g., transient or continuous, or positive or negative overvoltage or excessive current) or the type of system (e.g., DC, single or multi-phase AC), the disclosed invention reliably indicates a neutral-to-ground fault caused by any one monitored component. Whether the failure sensed is a surge suppressor or a current fuse, the monitoring circuit provides one or more alternative current paths to sense particular failures and further provides a failure indication for each detected failure. A light emitting diode (LED) circuit enabled by the monitoring circuit provides a reliable visual indication of a functional and a failed surge suppression circuit.

    摘要: A voltage regulator for regulating a power source that supplies an input signal includes input terminals connected across the power supply, a voltage sensor, a reference generator, a variable load unit, and a control unit. The voltage sensor is connected across the input terminals and receives the input signal and generates a scaled input signal from the input signal that is a fraction of the input signal in magnitude. The reference generator receives the scaled input signal from the voltage sensor and generates a reference signal. The variable load unit is connected across the input terminals. The control unit receives and compares the scaled input signal and the reference signal and instructs the variable load unit to dissipate a first portion of the input signal if the scaled input signal exceeds the reference signal.

    摘要: Apparatus for determining the opening combination of a safe lock includes a servo motor, a molded dial gripper that fits over the hub of the combination lock dial, and a high resolution rotary, encoder, preferably one with a resolution of 1000 PPR. The rotary encoder has a resolution of 0.09 degrees of rotation using quadrature, which permits the dial to be rotated accurately to within 1/10 of a digit. A programmable logic and control circuit can rotate the dial for automatic implementation of a manipulation technique. This permits the safe combination to be found in a rather short period of time, typically less than one hour.
