摘要: The present invention embraces a method for high-throughput gene profiling with high specificity and sensitivity. With this system, >1000 mRNA species can be co-amplified using gene-specific primers from a single cell. The primers are designed to amplify sequences of desirable length, which are in different exons. The exons can be either adjacent and separated by a large intron or include more than two exons. The amplified sequences are then analyzed by microarray with probes hybridizing to neighboring exons.

摘要: The present invention relates generally to methods for identifying cancer patients with a poor prognosis, and to therapeutic modalities for improving prognosis by combating metastasis and abrogating chemoresistance in cancer cells. Embodiments of the present invention provide an objective means of prognostication regarding the long-term outcome of an incident of cancer, breast cancer in particular. Therapeutic modalities include immunotherapy and anti-sense therapy. Prognosis is determined by measuring the number of copies of the metadherin gene in the patient's cells.

摘要: An exemplary locking or coupling device includes a plurality of magnets each having a direction of magnetization. A plurality of pole shoe members are positioned between selected ones of the magnets. A moveable support supports some of the magnets and some of the pole shoe members. The moveable support is moveable to selectively change a relative orientation of the directions of magnetization. One relative orientation primarily directs a flow of magnetic flux between the magnets through the pole shoe members and the magnetic flux remains essentially in a plane containing the magnets and the pole shoe members. A second, different relative orientation primarily directs the flow of magnetic flux from the pole shoe members in a transverse direction away from the plane.

摘要: A device for inhibiting the closing of a door that controls entry of an enclosure includes a first magnet disposed on a driven portion of the device and a second magnet disposed on a fixed portion of the enclosure. The first magnet and the second magnet are configured to be in register with each other as the door moves toward a closed position such that if the first magnet and the second magnet are in register with each other, a pole of the first magnet is in close proximity of a pole of the second magnet such that the first magnet and the second magnet react to each other to inhibit motion of the door towards the closed position.
