    Abstract: A method of producing endless drive belts of natural or synthetic rubber with thread-shaped embedded strength carriers which preferably extend in the longitudinal direction. This method relates especially to multiple V-belts and similar belts having longitudinal ribs extending continuously over the inner periphery or circumference thereof. A raw belt member is built up in upside-down sequence of layering, and is placed into an outer form or mold, in which it is formed-out and vulcanized. The belts are then turned or folded or rolled over into the use condition thereof. The raw belt member, which is produced oversize with respect to the outer form or mold, is retracted, pulled-in, or drawn-in to an outer diameter corresponding to the smallest inner diameter of the outer form, and is expanded within the outer form to, or essentially to, the original outer diameter thereof. The raw belt member may be subjected to a pressure gradient, drop or differential effective from the outside toward the inside for retracting, pulling-in or drawing-in the diameter thereof. The raw belt member has strength carriers of synthetic polymers which shrink in the heat, and may be subjected to an elevated temperature for retracting, pulling-in or drawing-in the diameter thereof.

    Abstract: Expandable drum for constructing a green carcass of a tire has a periphery and includes a plurality of metal segments positioned to form a substantially cylindrical arrangement, adapted for radial expansion and compression. A thick-walled casing, positioned over the plurality of metal segments, forms the drum periphery. The thick-walled casing includes rubber and a plurality of voids arranged to have an outer periphery in the thick-walled casing. An evacuating pump is coupled to the plurality of voids. The plurality of voids form suctioning voids to suction the green carcass onto the drum periphery during compression of the drum periphery, and are coupled at radially outermost extents to a network of grooves arranged to provide wave-free and smooth contraction of green carcass during its compression, thereby avoiding bulges and creases in contracting green carcass. Radially innermost extents of the voids are coupled to evacuating pump to create vacuum in the grooves.

    Abstract: Process and drum for constructing a green tire on a radially expandable drum having a substantially horizontal axis of rotation. The process includes collapsing the radially expandable drum at a minimum first diameter, and positioning a casing on the radially expandable drum to form a drum periphery being composed of an elastic material, and having an inner diameter at least as great as the first diameter, and including a plurality of voids coupled to an evacuating pump. The radially expandable drum is radially expanded from the first diameter to a second diameter greater than the first diameter to expand the casing, and producing a carcass, having at least one carcass ply with at least one of sidewalls and an air-tight inner layer, on the drum. A vacuum is produced in the voids to suction the carcass onto the drum periphery and at least axial end areas of the expandable drum are radially compressed to a third diameter to enable bead cores to traverse the drum periphery without touching the drum periphery. The bead cores are slid over at least the axial end areas of the drum periphery and are axially positioned over the axial end areas of the drum periphery, which are radially expanded at least the axial end areas of the radially expandable drum to a fourth diameter sufficient to radially compress the bead cores and the carcass against each other, providing adequate bonding between a bead core inner surface and a carcass external surface. The fourth diameter is substantially the same as the second diameter, the radially expandable drum is radially compressed to a fifth diameter between the first and second diameters, and the carcass with set bead cores is pulled off the radially expandable drum for further processing in a preshaping device. Upon conclusion of the bead core placement, the carcass is substantially free of compressive stress and tensile stress.

    Abstract: The build-up drum of build-up machines is frequently interchangeably mounted on its drive shaft in order to be able to adapt to changes in dimension in the production program with one and the same machine. If the operating and control elements associated with the drum bear directly against the end walls of the drum, each change of the drum requires considerable expense for adjustments and alignments. This is avoided by providing the build-up drum on both sides with a respective spacer and abutment sleeve against which the movable operating and control elements can bear in a constantly uniform orientation relative to the middle of the drum as the critical reference plane.
