The present invention provides a server load balancing apparatus using MPLS session labels. The server load balancing apparatus includes a packet analyzing unit, a load balancing processing unit, a session label switching unit, a session managing unit, and a session label managing unit. The packet analyzing unit inspects whether a session label has been attached to a received packet, analyzes header information of the received packet to learn session information, and attaches a session label to a header of the received packet. The load balancing processing unit assigns a server to a session of the received packet without the session label attached. The session label switching unit hardware-switches the received packet with the session label attached using only the session label information. The session managing unit manages and maintains relevant information and states of sessions. The session label managing unit manages the session label.

Provides is a method for processing a multicast packet received in a system for simultaneously providing virtual interface-based layer-2 multicast switching and layer-3 multicast routing. When a destination MAC address of a received Ethernet frame is a multicast MAC address, a VLAN-based layer-2 multicast switching function is performed. When a destination IP address of a received Ethernet frame is a multicast IP address, a virtual interface-based layer-3 multicast routing function is simultaneously performed within the same system.

A system and method for VLAN configuration of an E-PON converts physical ONU port information to logical OLT port information to construct profile information of the logical OLT system and VLAN membership information based on the logical OLT port, and provides a VLAN service to the users of an optical subscriber network. Accordingly, the present invention allocates the users in the ONU systems belonging to the same OLT port to different VLAN groups, provides enhanced VLAN services for the E-PON users, causes the OLT to perform functions of managing the profile of the ONU systems and transferring information among the users of the ONU systems, and causes the ONU systems to operate as terminals performing a multiplexing/demultiplexing function rather than as a conventional two-layer switch.
