Abstract: During operation, a layer-3 (L3) router can receive a trace query to trace multicast paths associated with a multicast group. In response to detecting a layer-2 (L2) switch coupled to the L3 router, the L3 router can construct a request packet and send the request packet to the coupled L2 switch. The request packet comprises a first data block indicating that the request packet is an L2 multicast trace request, thereby causing the L2 switch to propagate the request packet to downstream L2 switches until the request packet reaches a last-hop L2 switch. The L3 router can receive, from the last-hop L2 switch, a reply packet responsive to the L2 multicast trace request, the reply packet comprising one or more data blocks, with each data block comprising information about an L2 switch or client device present on a traversed multicast path for the multicast group.

Abstract: Techniques are described for communications in an L2 virtual network of a customer. In an example, the L2 virtual network includes a plurality of L2 compute instances hosted on a set of host machines and a plurality of L2 virtual network interfaces and L2 virtual switches hosted on a set of network virtualization devices. An L2 virtual network interface emulates an L2 port of the L2 virtual network. Information associated with the L2 virtual switches is collected and provided to the customer.

Abstract: Systems and methods of routing a data communication across a network having a plurality switches are provided by monitoring the operation of the plurality of global links to determine which of the plurality of global links provide working paths. A routing table indicative of a status for the plurality of links is maintained, where the routing table provides weighting for each of the working paths. When routing, a link using a weighted pseudo-random selection from the choices available in the routing table is selected. Routing along one of the working paths commensurate with the selected link is performed, and the weighting is updated based upon the operation of the plurality of links.

Abstract: A network interface controller (NIC) capable of efficient event management is provided. The NIC can be equipped with a host interface, a first memory device, and an event management module. During operation, the host interface can couple the NIC to a host device. The event management module can identify an event associated with an event queue stored in a second memory device of the host device. The event management module can insert, into a buffer, an event notification associated with the event. The buffer can be associated with the event queue and stored in the first memory device. If the buffer has met a release criterion, the event management module can insert, via the host interface, the aggregated event notifications into the event queue.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to the technical field of communications, and in particular, to a forwarding method, a forwarding system, an electronic device, and a computer-readable storage medium. The forwarding method includes: acquiring a packet to be forwarded, and detecting whether the packet to be forwarded contains a preset indicator, wherein the preset indicator is used for indicating that the packet to be forwarded has a designated forwarding path; when the packet to be forwarded contains the preset indicator, acquiring information of a protocol header following a Bit Indexed Explicit Replication (BIER) header of the packet to be forwarded, wherein the information of the protocol header is at least used for indicating the designated forwarding path; determining a next hop according to the information of the protocol header; and forwarding the packet to be forwarded according to the next hop.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a network switch device includes a network interface comprising ingress ports and egress ports, and configured to receive forwarding-table-configuration packets from a network management node, a processor to form a forwarding table based on the received forwarding-table-configuration packets, generate a forwarding-table-override configuration for a given ingress port of the ingress ports to override at least one forwarding rule of the forwarding table for the given ingress port, and install the forwarding table and the forwarding-table-override configuration for use by the given ingress port, and forwarding circuitry to forward packets received at the given ingress port based on the forwarding table overridden by the forwarding-table-override configuration.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a device may receive a multicast path trace request for a multicast tree, wherein the device is a mid-node in the multicast tree. The device may perform, based on the device being a mid-node in the multicast tree, an upstream trace of network topology of the multicast tree from the device to a head-node of the multicast tree and a downstream trace of network topology of the multicast tree from the device to at least one tail-node. The device may generate an end-to-end visible topology of the multicast tree based on the upstream trace and the downstream trace. The device may provide the end-to-end visible topology of the multicast tree to an observability manager.
