    摘要: Selected identifiers belonging to the wireless communications device are provided to a network entity based upon the control function being processed, or more generally, upon the class of control function being processed. In one embodiment, a Mobile Switching Center (MSC) receives a plurality of identifiers and a control function request from a wireless communications device. The MSC determines which of the identifiers are needed by the network entity to process the requested control function based on the control function requested. The MSC filters the received identifiers to remove un-needed identifiers based on its analysis and forwards the filtered identifiers to the network entity and/or to another network. In another embodiment, the present invention pushes the determination of which identifier to send downward to the wireless communications device itself. In these embodiments, the wireless communications device is programmed to determine which identifier is needed, and this identifier is transmitted to the MSC with the control function message. This determination by the wireless communications device of which identifier is needed is independent of the network, not simply a response to a command from the network. The present method helps insure that the proper identity is sent by the MSC to other network entities when the wireless communications device includes more than one fixed identifier. The method is particularly adapted for situations where the wireless communications device includes a subscription module having a subscription module identifier and mobile terminal having a mobile terminal identifier.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for performing over-the-air activation for wireless communications service subscriptions within a wireless communications system. The method includes providing a plurality of subscription modules each having a unique identifier that corresponds to a plurality of non-activated service subscriptions. An activation period is established for each of the non-activated service subscriptions within which the corresponding subscriptions must be activated or deleted from the system. A list of unique identifiers and their associated activation periods is stored in the wireless communications system. To activate the subscription, a subscription module is mated with a mobile equipment device. An over-the-air activation request is transmitted to the wireless communications system that includes the unique identifier associated with said selected subscription module. The service subscription associated with the unique identifier is activated when the unique identifier is stored on the list and the activation period is valid.

    摘要: A method of controlling the transmission of identities for wireless communications devices relies on a broadcast message from the network to instruct the wireless communications devices as to when to send their identity information. The network's control over the transmissions is extended to the control function class level. In a simple embodiment, the network includes instructions in a broadcast message telling the receiving wireless communications devices to send their identities for some classes of control functions and not others. Thus, by altering the broadcast message, the network is able to control the identity transmissions of the wireless communications devices. In more sophisticated embodiments, the network can control not only whether identities are transmitted for certain control functions, but which identity is transmitted. Thus, one identity (e.g., subscription module identifier) may be transmitted with one class of control functions (e.g., registration) and another identity (e.g., mobile terminal identifier) to be transmitted with other classes of control functions (e.g., page response), thereby providing great flexibility of control to the network.

    摘要: An Internet server allows a cellular telephone to acquire a short messaging service (SMS) address for an Internet station. A user of the cellular telephone generates a preliminary message including an Internet e-mail address for the Internet station. The preliminary message is sent to the Internet server using the SMS. The Internet server generates a reply message having the Internet station e-mail address in a sender address field. The reply message, when sent to the cellular telephone, prompts the Internet gateway to supply the SMS address for the Internet station to the cellular telephone. Further, the Internet server processes an initial message from the cellular telephone to at least one Internet station. The initial message includes a communication for an Internet station, a first line of the communication including the Internet e-mail address for the Internet station. The server generates a message having the Internet e-mail address of the Internet station in a recipient address field, and including the communication, and sends the message to the Internet station. The Internet server additionally processes an e-mail message from an Internet station to the cellular telephone, where the e-mail message includes a communication greater than a maximum communication length imposed by the SMS. The server divides the communication into a plurality of portions less than the maximum communication length. The server generates a plurality of messages, where each message includes one of the portions of the communication. The messages are sent by the server to the cellular telephone. Further, the Internet server provides the cellular telephone access to an Internet web page. The cellular telephone generates a request message including an Internet web page address, and sends the request message to the server. The server accesses the Internet web page and generates a message to the cellular telephone, the message including a content of the Internet web page.
