Abstract:
An apparatus and method for distributing and activating a new security parameter in a computer network in a non-disruptive manner includes transmitting a new security parameter to the an element in the network, instructing the element to place the new security element in a pending database of the element and activating the new security parameter. The present invention also determines possible conflicts in the computer network.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus that recognizes a portion of an address that would be unrecognizable to an intended associated switch or device and manipulates the portion of the address to make it recognizable. The apparatus and method manipulates a discontinuous address to provide the appearance to the associated device, switch or peripheral, that the address is continuous. This provides additional address capacity such that a new address is created within the switch itself for routing data within the switch. All or a portion of the switches in network are preassigned a chassis address, and each chassis also has a specific switch address that is different from the preassigned chassis address. An address adaptor provides translation of addresses and mapping within a switch so that in the event of a port failure, affected frames can be redirected from the failed port by employing the described translation and mapping operations.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for achieving a non-disruptive code load that includes staging the new version of executable code, stacking the hardware events during code copy and code switch over, copying the code into the runtime area, restarting the system upon completion of copying the new code without reinitializing the hardware and processing the stacked hardware events with the same system state (hardware and firmware) information.
Abstract:
A message queue server emulates a computer peripheral that not only supports communication between two mainframes, but also provides a gateway to open systems computers, networks, and other similar message queue servers. The message queue server provides protocol-to-protocol conversion from mainframes to today's computing systems in a manner that does not require businesses that own the mainframes to rewrite legacy applications to share data with other mainframes and open systems. The message queue server emulates a mainframe peripheral coupled to a first mainframe having a first protocol. The system includes digital storage to temporarily store information from the first mainframe. The system includes at least one manager that (i) coordinates the transfer of the information of the first protocol between the mainframe peripheral emulator and the digital storage and (ii) coordinates transfer of the information between the digital storage and (a) a second mainframe having a second protocol or (b) a computer network having a third protocol. Preferably, the message queue server emulates a tape drive and arranges the stored messages in a queue. Optionally, the message queue server manages the message queues as a function of information usually found in a standard tape label.
Abstract:
The system comprises a first processor, a second processor and non-volatile memory. The non-volatile memory stores messages being transferred between the first and second processors. The non-volatile memory is resettably and logically decoupled from first and second processors to preserve the state of the first and second processors and the messages in the event of a loss of communication or a processor reset. The non-volatile memory increases the rate of message transfer by transferring blocks of messages between the non-volatile memory and the second processor. The non-volatile memory includes status and control registers to store the state of messages being transferred, message queues, and first and second processors. The system may also include a local power source to provide power to the non-volatile memory.
Abstract:
A system for cooling telecommunications device includes an air inducing mechanism which pushes air into an enclosure of the device and an air exhaust mechanism which exhausts the air from the enclosure. The rate at which the air is pushed into the enclosure is less than the rate at which the air is expelled from the enclosure and these two rates are controlled such that the pressure differential between the pressure within the enclosure and the ambient pressure outside the enclosure is minimized. By minimizing this pressure drop, the airflow mechanisms are able to operate more efficiently, that is, they are able to operate at substantially near their design speed.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for dynamic resource mapping in a TCP/IP environment that includes a DRM server component, a client side DRM process for collecting machine specific performance characteristics, a client/server protocol to allow communication of machine specific process characteristics between the DRM server component and the client side DRM process and a DRM protocol to allow a client to request an application resource by name and the DRM server to return a selected address of a client, the selection made based upon collected machine specific performance characteristics of at least one client. Furthermore, the invention updates the DRM server to reflect the operability of the application and as a result does not return the address of the resource if it is inoperable.
Abstract:
A system for testing and monitoring the operation of telephone systems uses a call trace method for capturing messages associated with a phone call. The system can provide an indication as to the time a particular triggering signaling message (e.g., IAM or RLC message) was detected on a link. The present system assembles SS7 signaling messages in real-time. Time stamps are employed in triggers to identify past messages stored in a buffer that are related to the phone call. The instant method of call tracing modifies traditional trigger broadcast transmit-and-receive methods and adds an inter-element manager trigger broadcast capability
Abstract:
A framework of dynamic link libraries (DLLs) enables an application to perform protocol analysis of messages from multiple protocols. The framework is modular, allowing new protocol-specific modules to be added when analysis of new protocols is required. Analysis of multiple protocols is optionally executed simultaneously.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for achieving a non-disruptive code load that includes assigning an endpoint to a non-disruptive code loading new process, loading the process into a memory location of a system and starting the process, wherein a previous process is instructed to forward all messages on its queue to the new process to where all new signals are processed.
