摘要: A lightweight pliable flat conductor cable comprises a plurality of round wire conductors supported within generally parallel channels defined cooperatively by preformed and bonded plies of a polyimide insulation sheet material, particularly such as Kapton film. The Kapton film is highly resistant to degradation from exposure to ultraviolet radiation and further provides the conductor cable with a high degree of pliability throughout a broad range of temperature extremes, as encountered, for example, in an outer space environment. A method of forming the flat conductor cable is also disclosed.

摘要: A process for constructing a strong, ultra lightweight support substrate for use in outer space applications for support and protection of items, such as solar cells, in both stored and deployed configurations. The process provides for forming a series of elongated, parallel ribs in polyimide films with the selective application of heat, pressure and vacuum to the films. The sheets are bonded back-to-back with the ribs oriented at right angles to produce the substrate.

摘要: A substrate structure for lightweight, flexible solar cell arrays, in which a plastic substrate is provided with a structure for discharging accumulations of electrons on its rear face and has appropriate heat emmissivity properties. In one embodiment, a Kapton substrate layer is coated with a grounded aluminum layer, which is suitably painted for emissivity. In another embodiment, a poorly conductive Kapton substrate layer, impregnated with carbon, is used to dissipate the charge, and to provide the appropriate emissivity. In a third embodiment, a grounded VDA layer is sandwiched between two Kapton layers.
