    摘要: An orientation guide comprising a housing arranged to couple to a surgical instrument. In one embodiment the orientation guide further comprises first and second indicators (22, 26). The first indicator (22) is pivotally coupled to the housing (20) such that the first indicator (22) can rotate relative to the housing (20) about a first axis (24) to maintain its angular position about the first axis (24) relative to a vertical axis irrespective of movement of the housing (20). The second indicator (26) surrounds the first indicator (22) and is pivotally coupled to the housing (20) such that the second indicator (26) can rotate relative to the housing (20) about a second axis (32) orthogonal to the first axis (24) to maintain its angular position about the second axis (32) relative to the vertical axis irrespective of movement of the housing (20). The angular position of the housing (20) about the first and second axes (24,32) is indicated by the position of the first indicator (22) relative to the second indicator (26). In a second embodiment the housing (2) comprises a cavity filled with a fluid. An indicator (4) is supported within the fluid such that the indicator (4) can rotate relative to the housing (2) about a first axis to maintain its angular position about the first axis relative to a vertical axis irrespective of movement of the housing (2). The indicator (4) comprises a marking arranged to indicate the angular position of the indicator (4) relative to the housing (2) about the first axis. The housing (2) has at least one transparent portion for viewing the marking. A measuring element (8) is coupled to the housing (2) and arranged to slide relative to the housing (2) to be aligned with the indicator marking such that the angular position of the housing (2) about the first axis can be recorded.

The clamp is provided by a support ring and a clamp ring which is formed from a shape memory alloy which can shrink to clamp the wires against the support ring when heated.

    摘要: An instrument for forming a cavity within a bone. The instrument comprises a shaft, a blade pivotally mounted on the shaft towards a first end of the shaft and a push rod extending within the shaft and coupled to the blade, the push rod being arranged to slide within the shaft to cause the blade to rotate about its pivot. The instrument further comprises a depth stop coupled to the shaft arranged such that when the shaft is inserted into a bore extending into a bone the depth stop is arranged to engage bone surrounding the bore to limit movement of the shaft into the bore. A spring couples the push rod to the shaft and is arranged to resist axial movement of the push rod within the shaft towards the first end of the shaft. When the depth stop engages bone surrounding a bore, axial force exceeding the spring resistance applied to the push rod causes the push rod to slide within the shaft.

The ratio of (a) the distance between the internal support ring and the interface between the tapering portion and the throat portion to (b) the diameter of the throat portion is not more than about 1.0.

    摘要: An assembly for deploying a stranded support structure implant within a bone cavity to support the bone which defines the cavity comprises a support structure implant and an insertion tool. The support structure implant is formed from interlaced wires which extend from a first end of the structure towards an opposite second end. The structure flares outwardly from the first end to a maximum transverse dimension at a wide point between the first and second ends, and tapers inwardly between the wide point and the second end to a constant cross-section throat portion at the second end. The structure includes (i) a clip for controlling the spacing between the wires at the first end of the structure, in which the clip carries one of a spigot and a socket, and (ii) a ring clamp at the second end to retain the wires at the second end, in which the ring clamp has at least one clamp engagement formation. The insertion tool includes a probe end which carries the other of a spigot and a socket, so that the probe end and the clip can engage one another by means of the cooperating spigot and socket. An actuator moves the probe end relative to the tool engagement portion to cause the length of the implant to increase and its width to decrease.
