Abstract: A wheel capable of being used as the front or rear wheel of a chain-driven velocipede or as the front wheel of a pedal-driven tricycle has a wheel rim whose hub is formed with an axial passage and an array of receptacles extending inward from the opposite ends of the hub. A pair of identical metal plates are positioned at opposite ends of the hub, each plate having a set of tabs aligned with the receptacles at the associated end of the hub and an axial opening which is in register with the passage through the hub. The two plates are clamped together with the wheel hub between them so that they rotate in unison with the wheel hub. When mounted on an axle, the wheel can function as a non-driven velocipede wheel. Also, pedal crank sections can be inserted through the axial plate openings into the opposite ends of the hub passage and secured to the plates so that the wheel can be used as the front wheel of a tricycle. Still further, a sprocket can be mounted to one of the plates so that the wheel can function as the chain-driven rear wheel of a velocipede.

Abstract: A bearing fitting for attaching a swing device to the crossbar of a play gym includes an axle for mounting to the crossbar, a hook including a shank, a closed loop at one end of the shank encircling the axle and an open loop at the opposite end of the shank for engaging through an eye of the swinging device. A deformable resilient cover is engaged on the hook. The cover has a pair of closely spaced apart side walls, a top wall connecting the side walls, a hole in the top wall and a large bottom opening into the space between the walls. The cover is dimensioned for engagement on the hook so that the cover snugly surrounds the open loop of the hook with the hook shank extending out through the hole in the top wall.

Abstract: A children's swing comprises a generally rectangular strap-like seat having a flat resilient main body and a pair of tubes extending along the underside of said body adjacent to the longitudinal edges thereof. A pair of hangers project from the opposite ends of the tubes, each hanger having a pair of arms which diverge a distance comparable to the spacing of the pair of tubes and parallel end segments which extend from those arms an appreciable distance into the ends of the tubes. A pair of flexible inextensible connector segments are positioned in the pair of tubes and the opposite ends of the connector segments are attached to adjacent ones of the hanger end segments. The connector segments are shorter than the tubes so that these attachments are all recessed into the tubes and only small portions of the hangers project beyond the ends of the seat body, thereby minimizing the changes of the swing causing injury. A method of assembling the seat is also disclosed.

Abstract: A helmet holding system for a bicycle comprises a pair of hooks spaced apart along the handlebars of the bike and a special chin strap on the helmet which incorporates eyelets spaced apart along the length of the strap. Abstract: A power-assisted velocipede can be propelled selectively or concurrently by pedal power and by a battery-operated power unit. The velocipede includes a pedal crank which is mechanically coupled to the rear wheel by way of a sprocket incorporating an overrunning clutch and the power unit is mechanically coupled to the rear wheel by way of a second sprocket also incorporating a one-way clutch, both clutches operating so as to permit the rear wheel to overrun in the forward direction. The power unit is mounted to the frame and to the rear wheel axle and incorporates a small DC motor and a speed-reducing gear chain, the first gear being coupled to the motor and the last gear being rotatively coupled to the second sprocket by interfitting with the face of the last gear. The power unit is small, compact and easy to install on a more or less standard velocipede.

Abstract: A children's swing has an elongated beam with opposite ends and a mid portion providing a seating platform for at least two children. Pivotally attached to the opposite ends of the beam are a pair of rigid rockers, each rocket having an upper end defining hand grips and a lower end defining a foot rest. To use the rocker, the children sit on the beam back with their hands and feet on the hand grips and foot rests of the rockers in front of them. When the children rock the rockers in synchronism, the swing will swing to and fro with ever increasing amplitude due to the inertia of the children's limbs and changes in the included angles between the rockers and the beam.

Abstract: A guard for a swing connection comprised of a hook which hooks through the eye of a connector member includes a pair of rigid shells which are slotted at their edges to provide clearance for the hook and the connector member so that the shells can be clamped to opposite sides of the hook and engaged together edge to edge so as to form an enclosure which completely surrounds the hook and its connection to the connector member. The guard prevents finger injuries due to the pinch point at the connection between the hook and the connector member. It also maintains the relative position of the hook and connector member so that the connector member cannot become disengaged accidentally from the hook. In addition, the guard may be shaped and its exterior surface treated so that the guard adds a decorative element to the swing connection.
