    摘要: A lightweight assembly for suspendingly supporting a pair of magnetic read/write heads and associated sliders from a head-positioning arm, for use in disk type mass storage units. The assembly is formed entirely of aluminum and is intended for mounting to an aluminum arm. A single, unitary flexure supports both head/slider assemblies. The middle of the flexure is secured to the arm, with the longitudinal axis of the flexure transversely spanning the arm so as to support each head in cantilevered fashion, one on each side of the arm's longitudinal axis. A single unload needle can be inserted in a channel running parallel to the longitudinal axis of the flexure for removing the pre-load force from both slider air bearings.

The head assembly maintains a bellows arrangement for loading the head, with air entrained with the disk during disk rotation filling the bellows to force the slider carrying the head into a loaded condition. The air entrained with the disk thus provides the conventional retraction force, resulting from air flow against the slider, as well as a loading force thereby ensuring balance in changes in the forces resulting from variations in speed of the air entrained with the disk.

    摘要: A transducer module for a disk drive having a magnetic read/write head supported by a slider which is maintained at a predetermined distance from a rotating disk by an air bearing. The slider is secured to a flexible gimbal within a protective housing. A second flexible gimbal is also secured to the inside of the protective housing and is preloaded to bias the head toward the rotating disk through a pivot, enabling the slider to position itself properly in response to the air flow at the surface of the disk. Means are also provided for retracting the head through a second pivot. With such an arrangement the housing protects the head mechanisms and, when mounted on an actuator arm, allows extension and retractions of the head along an axis perpendicular to the disk surface.
