The subject matter described herein includes methods, systems, and computer program products for selective network management in a network having multiple active routes to a common destination that are keyed by different combinations of parameters. According to one aspect, the subject matter described herein includes a method for controlling distribution of network management messages concerning the status of a signaling link by provisioning a routing node with a primary route to a destination and at least one exception route to the destination wherein the primary route and the exception route are keyed by different combinations of signaling message parameters. The method includes receiving network management messages concerning the status of the destination on a linkset corresponding to the exception route, updating the status of the exception route in a route table maintained by the routing node, and suppressing the broadcasting of network management messages concerning the status of the destination to nodes adjacent to the routing node.

The subject matter described herein includes methods, systems, and computer program products for selectively processing or redirecting SCCP messages. According to one method, an SCCP message addressed to an STP and sent route-on-PC-SSN is received at the STP. It is determined whether the SCCP message can be processed locally by the STP. In response to determining that the SCCP message can be processed locally by the STP, the SCCP message is terminated, processed locally, and a response is sent to the message originator. In response to determining that the message cannot be processed locally at the STP, the SCCP message is redirected to a destination.

Methods and systems for identifying and redirecting messages of different SS7 protocol variations are disclosed. A screening function receives SS7 message and identifies candidates for redirection. An SS7 variation identifier/redirection function identifies the SS7 protocol variation of incoming SS7 messages identified as candidates for redirection. The redirection candidates are encapsulated in SCCP messages. The SCCP messages are then forwarded to an application. The SCCP messages preferably include indicators identifying the protocol variations of their payloads. Upon receiving the SCCP messages, the application decodes the payloads using the protocol variation indicator.
