This position causes a keystone distortion as well as imperfect focus in the projected image. To correct these undesirable problems, initially, a lens and/or an image-forming plate is independently repositioned to bring the projected image into focus based upon user input data. In a character recognition system, a method and apparatus for correcting the skew of a document image. Skew correction is typically performed during segmentation of the document image into text and non-text parts. Skew correction generally involves skew angle determination and correction of the document image based on the skew angle. A skew angle is determined through the steps of: providing a set of associated rectangles representing the document image, identifying a column edge associated with the set of associated rectangles, comparing rectangles from the set of associated rectangles to identify those that are in the same column and suitably far apart, calculating a tangential angle between the rectangles identified and identifying the most common tangential angle as the skew angle. Once the skew angle is determined, correction of the document image is made by constructing real skewed rectangles from corresponding extracted rectangles and rotating each of the real skewed rectangles around an origin coordinate for a distance based on the skew angle.

At least one least frequently occurring density level is determined for the plurality of large picture cells. The least frequently occurring density level is converted to an adjacent density level. The density levels for the picture cells are then encoded and transmitted to a receiver. At the receiving end, the encoded large picture cells are decoded to form a plurality of restored large picture cells. Each restored large picture cell is divided into four small restored picture cells by comparing its density level with that of four neighboring large restored picture cells.

The 3-D image stimulus changes according to the current visual field of the observer and the location of the observer in a predetermined visual space in a manner that undesirable perceptional effects are substantially eliminated. The image data sets are stored in a reduced space in an efficient manner for retrieval.
