摘要： A communication system provides for a distribution of bearer format type information among Network Elements located along a bearer path of a communication session, thereby facilitating a selection of a bearer format type for the communication session. The bearer format type information informs of bearer format types supported by each of the Network Elements. In one embodiment of the present invention, the bearer format types are conveyed in bearer format type data fields of bearer format type messages, which data fields may be modified by each Network Element in order to identify the bearer format type capabilities of the Network Element.

摘要： A wireless communication system comprises an infrastructure that includes a first network element that is upstream of a second network element, wherein the first network element comprises a first transcoder and the second network element comprises a second transcoder. The communication system controls a transcoding of voice by determining a first bearer type supported by the first transcoder, determining a second bearer format type mutually supported by the infrastructure and a mobile station serviced by the infrastructure, and selecting one of the first transcoder and the second transcoder to transcode the voice based on the first bearer format type and the second bearer format type.

摘要： A communication system utilizes an interface terminating at a base station (BS) of a circuit services network and a wireless packet data node in a packet data network and DOS over DBM signaling between the BS and an access terminal (AT), thereby permitting the communication system to tunnel SIP messaging between the AT and an IMS network via the BS and a packet data node and to tunnel HRPD traffic channel information and an HRPD identifier from the packet data network to the AT via the BS. Thus, a handoff of a voice call involving the AT may be initiated from the circuit services network to the paket data networking prior to the AT etablishing a call dialogue with the packet data network.

摘要： The method of transferring a CDMA data signal (107) associated with a mobile station (103) which operates between a source system (202) and a target system (204). The method includes establishing a frame relay switched virtual circuit (FR SVC) transport function capability in the source system (202) and, consequently generating a plurality of parameters. The method also includes determining that the mobile station (103) requires a transfer of the CDMA data signal (107) which results in forwarding a message from the source system to the target system to transfer the CDMA data signal (107), the message including the plurality of parameters. Based on the plurality of parameters, converting the CDMA data signal (107) into a FR SCV format by the target system (204), forming a frame relay data signal, which is routed via the target system (204) to an inter working function element (IWF)(214) of the source system (202).

摘要： A multiplexing scheme creates multiplexed PPP packets and demultiplexes the multiplexed PPP packets to reduce packet overhead. A point to point protocol packet communication apparatus such as a suitably programmed processing device or other suitable structure includes a point to point protocol packet header compressor (600) (and/or decompressor) having an input that receives point to point packets (601), such as original UDP packets, and an output that outputs compressed PPP packets (602). The apparatus includes a PPP packet multiplexer (and/or demultiplexer) (603) operatively coupled to the output of the PPP packet header compressor (600), and operative to create a frame (604) containing at least: multiplexed PPP packets from the plurality of PPP packets (606, 608 and 610), PPP multiplexed identification data 614 and PPP packet delimitation data (612). To demultiplex the multiplexed PPP packets at a receiving end, a method and apparatus includes evaluating PPP packet delimitation data from the frame containing multiplexed PPP packets, PPP multiplexed identification data and PPP packet delimitation data; and demultiplexing the frame based on the PPP packet delimitation data to obtain separate PPP packets.
