    摘要: A shearing tool for cutting cement siding which includes upper and lower blade holders. Each blade holder has first and second ends and an elongated slot extending substantially therebetween. The blade holders are positioned so that the slots face each other and are substantially aligned. Upper and lower blades are removably mounted in the slots of the upper and lower blade holders, respectively. The upper and lower blades each have a relatively narrow cross-sectional width and a cutting edge. When positioned in the slots of the blade holders, the upper and lower blades define a cutting plane in which the cutting edges are substantially aligned and face each other. A number of links are operatively connected to the ends of the blade holders so that either the upper or lower blade holder can move towards the other in the cutting plane. The links are configured so that the cutting edges of the blades are substantially parallel upon engaging a cement siding workpiece in a closed position, and an actuator is connected to at least one of the links for moving either the upper or lower blade holders towards the other to engage the upper and lower blades with the siding in the closed position.

The support plate can include a plurality of holes arranged in a pattern so that each hole in the portion of the support plate juxtaposed to the punch plate is aligned with a corresponding punch on the punch plate. Each hole can have a second cross-sectional dimension greater than the first cross-sectional dimension of the punches to define a radial punch/hole clearance between each punch and each hole. The radial punch/hole clearance, for example, is generally greater than that of metal punch presses to allow the punches to be removed from a fiber-cement panel without delaminating portions of the panel.

    摘要: The present disclosure is directed toward unitary modular shake panels, and methods for making and using such shake panels. In one aspect of the invention, a unitary modular shake panel includes an interconnecting section composed of a siding material and several integral shake sections projecting from the interconnecting section. The panel preferably has a quadrilateral shape with first and second edges along a longitudinal dimension that are separated from each other by a width of the panel along a transverse dimension. Additionally, the shake sections are separated from one another by slots extending from the second edge to an intermediate width in the panel. In a preferred embodiment, the panel is composed of a unitary piece of fiber-cement siding with a simulated wood grain running along the transverse dimension. The interconnecting section is preferably a web portion of the fiber-cement siding piece, and the shake sections are different portions of the same fiber-cement siding piece defined by the slots extending in the transverse dimension from the web portion to the second edge of the panel. Modular shake panels in accordance with the invention may be made using several different processes. In one embodiment, for example, a unitary modular shake panel is manufactured by the cutting planks from a sheet of siding material, and then forming slots in the panel to define the web portion and the shake sections. The planks are preferably cut from the sheet in a direction transverse to a wood grain on the surface of the sheet. The slots are preferably cut in the planks in the direction of the wood grain from a longitudinal edge to an intermediate depth within the plank.

A fiber-cement siding cutting tool in accordance with the invention may have a hand-held motor unit with a housing, a motor inside the housing, and a switch operatively coupled to the motor to selectively activate the motor. A head having a casing may be attached to the housing of the motor unit. The head may have a reciprocating drive assembly coupled to the motor. The hand-held cutting tool also has a blade set with first and second fingers attached to either the casing or the motor housing, and a reciprocating cutting member between the first and second fingers. The first finger may have a first guide surface and a first interior surface. Similarly, the second finger may have a second straight guide surface and a second interior surface. The reciprocating cutting member has a body and a blade projecting from the body. The blade has a first side surface facing the first interior surface of the first finger, a second side surface facing the second interior surface of the second finger, and a top surface. The first side surface of the blade is preferably spaced apart from the first interior surface of the first finger by 0.040-0.055 inches for cutting 1/4 inch and 5/16 inch thick fiber-cement siding. Similarly, the second side surface of the blade is spaced apart from the second interior surface of the second finger by 0.040-0.055 inches for cutting such fiber-cement siding. The distance between the first and second side surfaces and the first and second finger, respectively, may be approximately 13%-22% of the thickness of the fiber-cement siding workpiece.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for producing a non-linear, ornamental edge along a cement siding workpiece. In accordance with one embodiment of the invention, a first cutting blade is configured to have a non-linear shape corresponding to a shape of an ornamental feature that is to be cut in the cement siding workpiece. A second cutting blade is then configured to have the non-linear shape of the first cutting blade. The first and second cutting blades are aligned with one another to position a first cutting edge on the first cutting blade opposite to a second cutting edge on the second cutting blade. A cement siding workpiece is then positioned between the first and second cutting blades so that the first and second cutting blades are aligned with a location at which an ornamental feature is desirably formed on the workpiece. The first and second cutting edges are subsequently driven into the cement siding workpiece until the first and second cutting blades shear through the workpiece and form a non-linear, ornamental edge along the workpiece in the shape of the first and second cutting blades.
