Abstract:
We describe apparatuses, systems, method, reagents, and kits for conducting assays as well as process for their preparation. They are particularly well suited for conducting automated sampling, sample preparation, and analysis in a multi-well plate assay format. For example, they may be used for automated analysis of particulates in air and/or liquid samples derived therefrom in environmental monitoring.
Abstract:
A container puncturing device for efficiently and safely emptying the contents of a container into a storage tank or other structure. The container puncturing device generally includes a cross bar having a pair of tank attachment assemblies, a pair of bucket attachment assemblies and a puncturing member secured thereto. The bucket attachment assemblies are adapted to allow the present invention to be lifted and moved by a loader bucket such as one attached to a skid steer loader. The tank attachment assemblies are utilized to secure the present invention to the upper end of a tank. When a container is lowered onto the puncturing member, any particulate materials stored therein will be dispensed into the tank through the punctured opening. The present invention may then be lifted off and away from the tank through use of the bucket attachment assemblies and a loader bucket.
Abstract:
A method of creating perforations in wrapping film uses an apparatus that contains a plurality of needle points (or other piercing features) formed along a free-wheeling support bar. The bar is positioned to contact the film while it is being unrolled and is in a ‘tensioned’ state (in some embodiments, immediately prior to contacting the element to be wrapped). In performing the method, the free-wheeling perforation apparatus contacts a mechanized film roller such that the exposed needle points rotate against the mechanized roller and make the perforations in the film as it travels over the film roller. As long as the film roller is formed of a pliable material, the needles will pierce the film and create the desired perforations. The size and placement of needles can be adjusted to provide the required pattern of perforations, as well as dictate the size of the actual perforations.
Abstract:
A metal shell machining apparatus includes a cutting tool and a pressing tool. The cutting tool has a main body, at least two blade bodies, at least two enlargement portions, and at least two blade heads. The main body is a hollow cylinder, the blade bodies are formed by extending downwards from lower end of the main body, and there are at least two intervals between the blade bodies. The enlargement portions are formed by extending downwards and outwards from lower ends of the blade bodies, the blade heads are formed by extending downwards and inwards from lower ends of the enlargement portions. The pressing tool is a hollow cylinder and encircles a periphery of the cutting tool. The lower end of the pressing tool abuts the enlargement portions of the cutting tool. The apparatus can easily form oblique grooves on a metal plate, reducing manufacture cost.
Abstract:
In a perforating apparatus which has a holder to which a perforating blade can be fastened, the perforation is produced via the movement of a piston by the piston pressing against an air cushion, which in turn transmits this pressure to a perforating piston which presses the perforating blade downward. A positioning device which directly varies the position of the piston unit relative to the housing surface is provided for the zero setting of the piston.
Abstract:
A headspace gas sampling and venting method utilizes a vent port and a sampling port which are punched through the lid of a drum containing hazardous materials, such as transuranic waste. In accordance with the system, a punch having a hollow passage therethrough, which passage has a filter element therein is first inserted through the lid using a pneumatic gun. A second punch, similar to the first punch, but having a passage with a septa seal therein is thereafter inserted through the lid with the pneumatic gun. Headspace gas beneath the lid is then sampled with a needle inserted through the septa seal. Both the venting port and sampling port are configured with detachable punch points which pass through the lid and are then released from the venting and sampling ports so as to open ends of the passages therethrough for communication with the headspace. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the punch points are held on the venting and sampling ports by annular plastic retainers which break when the ports are inserted through the drum lid, thus allowing detachable punch points to fall away.
Abstract:
A method for forming elastic ventilation cushion comprises the steps of arranging a plurality of needle seats at two banks, an upper bank and a lower bank, and a straight gap is formed between the upper bank and the lower bank, wherein one edge of each needle seat near the other bank is mounted with a plurality of slender needles, wherein each distal end of the needles is folded as a distal folded section; passing an elastic cushion through the gap; and moving the needle seats at the upper and lower banks so that the length of the gap is enlarged or reduced, thereby, the needles on the needle seats will pierce the elastic cushion and the distal folded section will tear surfaces of the elastic cushion to form a plurality of elastic ventilation slits on the elastic cushion. Moreover, the needle seats can be replaced by needle rollers.
Abstract:
Improved aperturing of a web can be obtained by providing pins with an extended tapered section that is substantially convex in shape. When the tapered section is longer than the penetration depth of the pins into the receiving recesses of a female roll, frictional forces in the nip between layers are reduced. Pins with extended tapered sections can be used in devices for producing apertured composite web assemblies comprising sections of absorbent matter attached to a nonwoven web or other carrier layer.
Abstract:
A perforation forming apparatus for a web fed paper processor generally comprising a perforator cylinder and an anvil cylinder. The rotatable perforator has at least a blade protruding radially from the cylinder. The rotatable anvil cylinder is adjacent the perforator cylinder and is contiguously engageable therewith. One of the perforator cylinder and the anvil cylinder is supported by eccentric bearing assemblies, comprising fluid cooled bearings eccentrically mounted in bearing housings and therefore adapted for rotation such that the eccentrically mounted cylinder can be pivotally displaced between a first and second position. Whereby pivoting to the second position during operation temporarily suspends perforation of the paper web, and returning to the first position during operation resumes perforation of the paper web.
Abstract:
A hole-forming device includes a base member having a hole-forming projection facing a bottom of a can. The hole-forming projection is formed on an upper surface of the base member. The base member is slidable upward to the upper part of a case by pushing a pressing member. The hole-forming projection is normally held in the case for safety.
