Abstract: An X-ray tube includes an anode member having a cylindrical cavity connectable to a cooling medium flow. A cooling device (14) in the cavity distributes the cooling medium with turbulent flow and which comprises a tube (141) on the outer faces of which there are mounted spaced apertured cooling medium guide discs (142, 144) constructed so that the cooling medium flows around the tube over the discs and through their apertures in the space between the anode member (8) and the tube (141).

Abstract: The invention relates to a device for generating X-rays (69). The device comprises a source (5) for emitting electrons (65), a carrier (7) which is provided with a material (9) which generates X-rays as a result of the incidence of electrons, and a bearing (17) by means of which the carrier is journalled so as to be rotatable about anaxis of rotation (15). A first one (21) of the bearing members (21, 23) of the bearing is connected to the carrier. According to the invention, the device comprises a chamber (81) which is bounded by a heat transferring surface (89) of the carrier (7) and by a heat transferring surface (91) of the first bearing member (21). Said chamber is at least partially filled with a heat transferring material (85) which is liquid at an operational temperature of the device. Said liquid material is urged, during operation, towards both said heat transferring surfaces. In this manner, an additional heat transfer path is achieved from the carrier to the bearing (17) via said liquid heat transferring material. The rate of heat transfer via the additional heat transfer path is relatively high and independent of thermal deformations of the carrier and the first bearing member. In an embodiment of the device, the liquid heat transferring material (85) is urged towards the heat transferring surfaces (89, 91) under the influence of centrifugal forces exerted on the liquid material during rotation of the carrier (7). In another embodiment, the liquid material (111) is contained in a flexible envelope (113).

Abstract: An anode of a rotary-anode X-ray tube is connected to a bearing portion which is rotatable about an axis of rotation and which cooperates with the stationary bearing portion in which there is provided a cavity which extends in the direction of the axis of rotation and whose side walls can be cooled by means of a cooling medium. Effective cooling, in combination with a small pressure drop of the cooling medium, is achieved in that there is provided a cooling member which serves to produce an essentially laminar cooling medium flow and which consists of a number of lamellae which extend essentially parallel to the axis and which are in thermal contact with the side walls of the cavity.
