    摘要： The retractable and extensible shackle of the present padlock is formed with a section, which includes the short leg of the shackle, which section is deflectable relative to the remainder of the shackle when the shackle is released from the padlock body and projected away therefrom, thereby giving the shackle a wide mouth for easy entrance thereinto of a bar or other fixed element of an item to which the padlock is to be applied. Then, when the deflected portion of the shackle is returned to its normal position and the retracted shackle is secured within the padlock body the shackle will so closely encompass the engaged bar or element that there will be no room for the application of a cutting tool by a prospective thief.

    摘要： The major portion of the padlock body is formed of metallic laminations but a section of the padlock body in juxtaposition to a series of laminations is completed by a band-forming slab which projects slightly outwardly of the surfaces of the laminations to provide an annular bumper which may also carry identifying indicia. Portions of the slab are formed with openings cooperating with contiguous openings in the laminated portion of the padlock body to accommodate components of the padlock mechanism.

    摘要： The hasp plate has swingably associated therewith the inner end portion of a novel type of strap of shackle-like formation with the extremities of its legs extending through slots therefor in the hasp plate and being engaged below the under-surface of the plate by a recess-accommodated, non-accessible hinge pin. Similarly the legs of the staple eye extend through slots therefor in the staple plate and are held against withdrawal by a non-accessible pin seated in a recess in the under-surface of the staple plate. Both the hasp strap and the staple eye may be easily assembled with their respective plates in a simple and expeditious manner.

    摘要： For the protection of the outer end portion of an internal combustion engine exhaust pipe, a protector is available which includes a collar secured to the outer end portion of the exhaust pipe hingedly carrying a protective cover formed with a weighted, radially outwardly projecting fin. The cover normally overlies and closes the open outer end of the exhaust pipe to which it is applied but will hingedly move to open position through exhaust gas pressure. This invention provides a lock for securing the cover in its closed position to prevent the undesired introduction of foreign material into the discharge end of the exhaust pipe when the engine is not being operated and the equipment or vehicle embodying the engine is idle and unattended.
