    摘要: A mailing machine includes structure for transporting a mailpiece at a constant speed through the mailing machine in a processing direction; structure for continuously determining a position of the mailpiece in the mailing machine; a first printhead having first nozzles aligned transverse to the processing direction; a second printhead having second nozzles aligned adjacent to the first nozzles and transverse to the processing direction; structure for coordinating the selective energizing of the first and second nozzles in synchronism with each other and the position of the mailpiece so that the first printhead only prints first predetermined columns of ink dots of an indicia image on the mailpiece and the second printhead only prints second predetermined columns of ink dots of the indicia image on the mailpiece, the second predetermined columns of ink dots being in interlaced relationship in the processing direction with the first predetermined columns of ink dots whereby the first and second columns of ink dots together form the indicia image. A method includes the steps of aligning at least first and second printheads in a processing direction of a substrate to be printed on; moving the substrate in the processing direction past the first and second printheads; selectively energizing the first printhead to only print first predetermined columns of ink dots of an image on the substrate; selectively energizing the second printhead to only print second predetermined columns of ink dots of the image on the substrate, the second predetermined columns of ink dots being in interlaced relationship in the processing direction with the first predetermined columns of ink dots whereby the first and second columns of ink dots together form the image.

    摘要: A replaceable ink supply tank that can be mounted to a pen body of a printhead system for use with an ink jet printer. The ink supply tank provides the necessary back pressure for successful operation of the printhead and includes a siphon break in the conduit that supplies ink from the supply tank to the pen body. A conduit connects the ink supply tank to the pen body. The conduit contains a raised portion that is at a level higher than the ink level in the supply tank. The conduit contains a siphon break chamber between the raised portion and the pen body. The conduit further contains an accumulator in the raised portion of the supply tank. The accumulator maintains back pressure in the preferred range to discourage drooling from the nozzle plate during ambient temperature swings.

    摘要: Mailing machine comprising a printer module including an array of ink jet print elements for printing on an envelope having a top surface, a registration shield located below and spaced apart from the printer module and a transport apparatus. The registration shield includes a top surface and a bottom surface and has an opening through which the array of ink jet print elements project ink onto the top surface of the envelope. The transport apparatus feeds the envelope in a path of travel so that the envelope passes between the registration shield and the printer module. Additionally, the transport apparatus includes a device for biasing the top surface of the envelope into contact with the registration shield. The registration shield further includes a channel extending parallel to the path of travel and in substantial alignment with the opening so that the top surface of the envelope in proximity to the channel does not contact the bottom surface of the registration shield so as to allow air to flow through the opening.
