Abstract:
A system for selectively turning elongated pieces comprising a conveyor transversally receiving and carrying in a sequence the elongated pieces along a transfer course. A piece turning apparatus is mounted next to the conveyor and has a number of turning hands in which an end of one of the elongated pieces is engageable so that rotation of the turning hand effects a turning of the one of the elongated pieces about a longitudinal axis thereof when the end of the one of the elongated pieces is engaged in the turning hand. Carriages are distributively mounted onto the endless driving body and supporting respectively the turning hands so that each one of the turning hands successively moves into an engaging position with an end of one of the elongated pieces as the one of the elongated pieces is carried by the conveyor. A cam body drives the turning hands in rotation.
Abstract:
A method for wrapping at least a portion of an article (22) including folding the wrapper material (60) to cover at least one first peripheral face (24, 30) such that each one of at least two first wrapper sections extends beyond a respective first lateral edge (32) of the at least one first peripheral face (24, 30) and such that each one of at least one second wrapper section extends beyond an upper edge (38, 40) of a respective one of at least one second peripheral face (30, 24), folding and securing each first section against one of the at least one second peripheral face (30, 24), and folding and securing each second section against the respective second peripheral face (30, 24). The wrapper material (60) remaining at least partially grabbed until at least one of the at least one second section is secured.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to an apparatus and method of cutting meat. The apparatus and method is particularly directed to separating a backbone portion from a rib portion of a piece of meat. The apparatus is comprised of a vertical orientation unit for vertically orienting the piece of meat. The orientation unit includes a longitudinal receiving channel having a generally horizontal top surface, the surface having a slot. The width of the slot accommodates the rib portion but not the backbone portion so that the backbone portion is held above the orientation unit. A moving unit is provided and is adapted to contact the backbone portion for moving the piece of meat horizontally in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the channel. A cutting unit is provided which includes a saw blade, a portion of which is oriented horizontally, wherein the cutting unit horizontally cuts the rib portion from the backbone portion.
